1677: 1st medical publication in America published in Boston.
On January 21, 1677, John Foster circulated the first medical publication in Boston. Firstly, Reverend Thomas Thatcher wrote this write- up. Moreover, it was to educate people about how to manage smallpox, a deadly disease. Small Pox is also Measles. Additionally, when John Foster sold this publication, it was named “A Brief Rule to Guide the Common People of New England How to Order themselves and theirs in the Small Pox, or Measles.” Lastly, a second version was published in 1702.
1789: 1st American novel, Power of Sympathy is published.

The Power of Sympathy was the first American Novel. Isaiah Thomas published it in 1789 on this day. Readers also knew it as The Triumph of Nature. William Hill Brown authored this novel. The genre of this book was sentimental. Furthermore, this book explicitly mentioned the pitfalls of giving in to people’s passions. Also, it focused on the moral education of the women of those times. This book was special. It was a collection of various letters between the protagonists. It was a superhit write up of those times.
1979: Neptune becomes the outermost planet.
On January 21, NASA declared Neptune to be the outermost planet of our solar system. Furthermore, this planet had crossed the orbit of Pluto, our dwarf planet. Today, NASA photographed Neptune in its orbit. Moreover, this photograph showed that Pluto’s orbit was closer to the Sun than Neptune. In 1979, it began its 20-year run as the outermost planet of the Solar System. This was quite a phenomenon as the last planet is Pluto. And, this planet has been removed from the set of planets in the solar system.
2004: NASA’s MER- A ceases communication with mission control.
In 2004, MER- A lost communication with the mission control. Scientists also called this rover the Spirit. NASA sent two rovers to Mars. Although on January 21, it weirdly ceased communication with the control. Although it was still receiving transmissions

2020: World’s oldest asteroid impact at 2.2 billion years found in Western Australia.
Today, scientists discovered the oldest asteroid impact crater in Western Australia. But, researchers revealed the most shocking fact. It was probably this asteroid 2.2 billion years ago that ended the Ice Age. This crater is half the age of Earth and created quite the stir. The scientists concluded their study with the different minerals found in the soil.
