Today, on October 15, our history has seen some great days and created some high milestones, from the science field to the sports field, not only on earth but in space missions too.
October 15 is celebrating the successful space mission of China, the opening of Edison Electric Light Company by Thomas Edison, the first flight of JRD Tata, and the 1,851st goal of Wayne Gretzky.
1878 – Edison Electric Light is inaugurated by
Thomas Edison
On October 15, 1878, Thomas Alva Edison founded Edison Electric Light Company in New York. The company had J.P. Morgan, Spencer Trask, and the members of the Vanderbilt family as the financiers.
The term “filament” was first applied by Thomas Edison through this company only. By 1890, Thomas Edison merged this company with his other companies, and all the combined companies were known as Edison General Electric Company.
1932 – JRD Tata flew the first flight of Tata Airlines
The full name of JRD Tata is Jehangir Ratanji Tata, he was the first person to become a licensed pilot of India. He was the man to head the largest industrial group of India for five decades.
On October 15, 1932, JRD Tata piloted the first-ever flight of Tata Airlines. The flight flew from Karachi’s Drigh Road Aerodrome to Mumbai’s Juhu Airstrip via Ahmedabad. The aircraft was a single-engine De Havilland Puss Moth which was carrying 25kg of 4-anna airmail letters.
1989 – 1,851st goal of Wayne Gretzky
Wayne Gretzky is a hockey player, he is the only hockey player who has two hundred points in a season, he achieved this milestone four times and was very near to achieve this fifth time but just missed it by four goals. He has thirty-one individual awards in NHL history.
He has been awarded by Conn Smythe Trophies, Lady Byng Award, and the most goals award, the Rocket Richard Award.
On October 15, 1989, Wayne Gretzky broke the record of Gordy Howe, which was of hitting 1,850 goals, by hitting three goals in the match against Edmonton Oilers which recorded 1,851 goals in his list of goals.
2003 – China launches its first manned spacecraft, Shenzhou 5
China launched four uncrewed spacecraft since 1999 before launching its fifth spacecraft in 2003 in the Shenzhou mission.
On October 15, 2003, China launched Shenzhou 5 which was the first manned spacecraft launched by China, it was launched in Earth orbit by the Long March 2F launch vehicle.
By launching Shenzhou 5, China became the third country to launch a manned spacecraft after Russia and America.
Shenzhou 5 had a 38-year-old former fighter pilot, the spacecraft took a long journey to rotate fourteen times around the Earth, according to the media report.
