1892: First Black Medical Journal Published
It was on the day of December 30, 1892, that Dr. Miles Vandahurst Lynk, published his first journal, which in turn was the first journal published by a black. Miles Vandahurst Lynk was a physician. Along with his own research work, Dr. Miles V. Lynk worked for implementing opportunities for the African-American in the scientific field.
The first black journal was titled Medical and Surgical Observer. The physician himself founded, edited and also published this journal. Moreover, he was a leading founder of the University of West Tennessee College of Medicine and Surgery. This historical journal served as a medium of unification for all the American-African medicine practitioners all across the United States.
1906: Iran becomes a Constitutional Monarchy.
A monarchy is a form of a government existing even today. Herein a king or a queen acts as the head of the state and rules the country. Although the decision making power lies in the hands of the parliament and not with the monarch.
The country of Iran was declared a constitutional monarchy on the day of December 30, 1906. However, it was overthrown on February 11 in 1979. The country identifies itself as an Islamic Republic since then. However, until 1935 Iran was called Persia. The historical significance of the country is valued even today. Iran was the first country to adopt a monarchy. However, the country underwent a period of autocracy during the years 1925–1941.
Dated today the politics of Iran abides to a framework that combines elements of theocracy and presidential democracy.
1922: Soviet Union Founded
Soviet Union was the Union Of Soviet Socialist Republics or USSR. It was a federal socialist state in the north of the continent Eurasia (Europe and Asia). It was a one-party state. Nevertheless, the State existed from the year 1922 to 1991.
Governed by the Communists, the USSR achieved many milestones during the term of its existence. Soviet Union celebrated both social and technological achievements and innovations. Some of the significant events are inclusive of world’s first ministry of health, first humans in space, the first human-made satellite and the first probe to land on another planet-Venus. Moreover, the state managed to acquire the position of the second largest economy of the world and also the largest stood military force in the world. The territory incorporated Eastern Europe, parts of Northern Europe and Western Asia, and all of Northern and Central Asia.
1924: Existence of other galactic systems announced
As of December 30, 1924, the perception of the universe in the eyes of people took a leap. People witnessed an unforeseeable aspect of the universe. Milky Way galaxy was the what people thought incorporated the Universe. It was in the year 1924 when American Astronomer Edwin Hubble announced the existence of galaxies beyond the Milky Way galaxy. Hubble discovered the existence of giant stars, Andromeda Nebulae. It was estimated to be as large as to hold as much matter as a galaxy. Moreover, it could produce a billion times more light as that produced by the Sun.
Eventually, Hubble discovered a dozen such galaxies and came up with the idea of expansion of Universe. This ultimately led to the discovery of the Big Bang Theory. NASA honoured his contributions by naming the Hubble Space Telescope after him.
1929: Sigma Gamma Rho becomes a collegiate Sorority
Sigma Gamma Rho is not just an organisation working tirelessly for the upliftment of principles like Scholarship, Service and, Sisterhood. It is rather a family. Explicitly, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority incorporates educated, caring, beautiful independent woman. The members work for the enhancement of their community. Consequently aiming to make a positive impact in the World.
Although this Greek lettered Sorority was founded on November 12,1922, but it became a collegiate sorority on December 30, 1929. They aim to improvise the quality of life within their community. The programs and activities hallmark the missionary virtues. Public service, leadership development and youth education is the primary focus. The Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. has over a hundred thousand members. Women can join in through undergraduate chapters in University or through an alumnae chapter after the completion of undergraduate degree.
