Today, on December 11, we bring you two of the most important events. Both these days are here to be savored and recognized. Innovation and conservation are equally important. Where inventions make our lives easier, supervision helps in longevity. With International Mountain Day, we learn more about this rich biodiversity. National App Day is the celebration of human ideas. So, let’s celebrate creativity and care together.
International Mountain Day
Introduction
We love hills and those beautiful sceneries with mountains. However, our knowledge about these natural jewels is very limited. You may know, mountains provide for sixty percent of today’s water resources. Also, over fifteen percent of the world population lives on the mountain. That is around 1.17 billion people! Yet we are very little concerned about this biodiversity. It’s time to learn more and understand why we celebrate this day.
History
In 2003, the UN General Assembly declared December 11 as International Mountain Day. It is in efforts to preserve mountains from climate change and overexploitation. Rich biodiversity, mountains provide us with shelter and food resources. One of the famous resources is Cashmere Wool. But, with abrupt climate change, glaciers are melting. This causes a landslide and endangered species. Ever since 2003, the UN has celebrated this day with different themes, focusing on different problems. This year’s theme is Mountain Biodiversity.
How To Celebrate?
Raise awareness regarding Mountains. Use ‘#MountainsMatter’ on social media. Write, curate arts about issues like Climate Change and overexploitation. Read about ongoing campaigns and support them. Amplify your voice with pictures of Mountains and it’s resources. Understand concepts like Carbon footprint and ecosystem restoration. We have time to preserve and save them before it is too late. It is important to realize that these mountains are the essence of today’s world survival.
National Apps Day
Introduction
Can you imagine a day without your apps? Can you imagine going on a website and then check basic updates like messages, emails, attend online classes, etc.? Software applications are an important tool for today’s social interaction. Be it your office work or friends, an app has changed the idea of consuming information. Now, you can access any media with the help of apps on Google playstore or Apple app store or third-party.
History
In 1997, Nokia launched its first app. Can you guess what it was? Snakes! Later, it also launched games like Solitaire and Brick. However, it wasn’t until June 2007. Apple launched the Apple app store on iPhones. This was a huge commercial success. However, the major success that increased its popularity was ‘Angry Bird’. It was the first instalment and became a major hit. It even managed to make its way up to NASA! In 2017, CJ Thompson celebrates today December 11 to promote creativity and innovation.
How To Celebrate?
List down names of the apps. Make two categories, favorite and essential. Share this list with #NationalAppDay. You can create a challenge and invite others to do the same. You can also share some ideas about apps that you wish could exist. Also, recognize the hard work behind these apps. Make sure you leave constructive and good reviews for the apps you love. Try exploring new apps and recommend them to others.
