World Environment Day
The United Nations, selected June 5 as the World Environment Day. The day marks the creation of awareness amongst the masses about the necessity of saving the world and working in ways to save Mother Nature. The day is a big umbrella that accommodates all problems relating to the planet and nature. From global warming to sustainable consumption, everything is given importance today. Host countries are chosen each year and a theme is selected for the celebrations. This year, the theme prescribed is ‘Time for Nature’ to be celebrated by Columbia. NGOs, eco-organizations, environmentalists, schools, and others across the globe, give in time for environmental causes and spread information about the same.
How to do your part?
Nature has bestowed upon us the most abundant gifts of our lives. Everything that we enjoy today is a result of nature coordinating selflessly throughout the years. But, with time we humans have started exploiting it for our greed. So, today think about what all the planet has given you and be grateful for it. Take your day off and work with an organization that is into helping the environment. Motivate others to do it with you. We need to save the planet, for without it would not be able to survive. Pledge this day, that you will work for a better day tomorrow.
HIV Long-Term Survivors Day
HIV LongTerm Survivors Day is observed every year on the 5th of June. This day is to celebrate and motivate people who have been living with HIV for years. This day is to acknowledge their struggle, bravery, and destigmatize the stereotypes around HIV and its survivors. The life expectancy of HIV survivors has increased from 19 years to 53 years at present. Indicating most people live the same amount as a normal human would. In the 21 century as well, there is a lot of stigma around this and it needs to be stopped.
You can identify people who are such survivors and provide them with any help they need. Make such people feel at ease and treat them as one amongst you. Rather than sympathizing with them, strike a friendship.
