Holidays are a great time to be with your friends and family. We shower each other with gifts and love, play our favourite games and remember our memories. However, fair to say that we do eat more than usual. This year, you might not do any outdoor exercise to avoid the infection. It’s okay! We got you. Here are few tips on how to recover from your Thanksgiving Binge in 2020.
Drink Water!
Our body consists mostly of water. We know that it is essential for us but we still replace it with soft drinks, sparkling water, etc. Whatever you do, remember that water cannot be replaced with other supplements. Decrease of water content in your body can affect your kidneys and liver.
Helps in digestion– It helps in breaking down of your food so that your body can absorb nutrients and enhances overall body health. Flush out toxins– As we said, water is essential for digestion. But it also helps in speeding up the metabolism of your body by decreasing sugar. Reduces bloating– It reduces sodium and excess fluids from our body and helps in bloating.
Get Moving
You are bloated and tired. Exercise is the not thing you would like to do. Routine walks or exercise have their benefits. Show some love to your body in this Thanksgiving.
Walk around the house or outside(if it is safe). Everyone loves napping after a heavy meal. But it will be more beneficial if you take a walk or clean your room. Try to do light exercise. If you cannot go out, do light exercise to reduce tension and enhance digestion. You can do Vajraasana or half-moon pose
.
Avoid carbonated drinks
Drinks that contain ‘soda’ are often understood as ‘good for digestion’. There is some truth to that, but it sure comes with its disadvantages Avoid it especially after the Thanksgiving binge.
Warms your stomach with help of CO2 and can cause bloating. Cause acid reflux and heartburn. Dilutes your natural digestive enzymes and can increase your blood sugar level as it contains an artificial sweetener.
Switch to Tea
Instead of going for your regular cup of coffee, switch to a cup of tea. Coffee can cause restlessness and stomach upset. You need drinks that can soothe your body and relax your inflamed stomach.
Full of antioxidants and helps in reducing inflammation. Caffeine in tea is in moderate amount than coffee and can help you to relax. It will also help. Can help in digestive upset-Teas such as Dandelion or Peppermint can help in digestive upset. Also, Green tea is undoubtedly the best option for such cases.
.
Eat the right food!
Do not starve yourself. You may feel full of all thanksgiving binge eating. You might want to overcompensate by eating less, but your body needs its nutrients. Be selective in what you eat and avoid processed food. Try to reduce sugar intake and use other alternatives like blueberry or maple syrup.
Fibre-rich food helps in constipation and keeps digestion smooth. Foods rich in Omega 3 acid can reduce inflammation and helps digestion. Use foods like garlic or flaxseeds for better results. Eat lots of veggies and fruits as they are alkaline. These will help with your craving and improve your cellular health.
Take detox drinks
Detox drinks can be vital for flushing out toxins and helping your upset belly. Some of them are:
Turmeric-Add a half teaspoon of turmeric powder with a dash of pepper in lukewarm water. Take this in the morning, It will help with detoxifying the liver.
Lemon-Use a few drops of lemon in lukewarm water. Similar effects can be obtained if you prefer to have lemon tea.
Smoothies-You can also make and have your favourite smoothies. They keep you full for a long time than fruit juices and are low in sugar (unless you add some).
Avoid Alcohol
Drinking can hamper with your digestion. Also, it advisable to avoid drinking until your body has digested the thanksgiving meal. Since your liver is responsible for metabolising the alcohol, do not overstress it with binge eating and drinking.
Lastly, a good night sleep!
Your body will take its time to recover from thanksgiving binge. A deep sleep of 6 to 7 hours is essential for your body to do its natural function. Your brain requires rest to regulate your body’s normal functions properly. Sleep deprivation can increase your stress and affect your health.
Sleep aids in digestion as your body works even if you are in deep slumber. Avoid eating a heavy meal before bedtime. If you cannot help it, then try to eat 3 hours before bedtime. Avoid sleeping over your stomach- It can create stress and result in pain. Try to lay sideways or use a pillow for support.
Don’t worry, everyone has their day. It’s important to understand that these steps will ensure comfort if followed properly. Do not overdo anything to cause discomfort. Everyone is different and what works for one might not work for others. Be patient and relax. In case of distress, seek medical help. Hope you enjoy this weekend!
