The centrality of the Declaration of Independence (1776) to the developments of the 1770s is self-evident. From the Boston Tea Party to the shot heard round the world, Washington’s Crossing of the Delaware, and the Valley Forge winter, the American Revolution’s pursuit of liberty was made meaningful by the founding document of the great American experiment in democracy.

The document of the Declaration of Independence plays a major role in the history of independent America. The amended Declaration of Independence, prepared by Thomas Jefferson, was approved and signed by John Hancock–President of the Continental Congress–and Charles Thomson, Congress secretary, severing their political connections to Great Britain.

The Declaration of Independence constitutes of all the rights of the citizens against the king. It states the fact that the colonies should be free to protect their rights. The great document was signed by all the delegates at the end.
