Welcome to another bright day in June. There’s always something or the other happening around the world. The world, being so large, has witnessed infinite inventions, innovations, achievements, and other milestones in the past. You can do something amazing today, and maybe it is something that we write about in Today in History in the coming years. We, at Brag Social, try to keep you updated with all the happenings of the past and present. Let’s read about the historical milestones of June 29:

1767: The British parliament passes the Townshend Revenue Act, levying taxes on America

The Townshend Acts were a series of British Acts of Parliament that was passed during 1767 and 1768. One of these Acts included the Townshend Revenue Act for the British colonies in America, used for levying heavy taxes. It placed new duties on lead, paper, glass, paint, and tea.

1917: The Ukraine proclaims independence from Russia

The major event which led to the defeat of Russian imperial forces in the capital of Ukraine was the Kiev Uprising. This was a self-proclaimed independence by the Ukraine Central Council.

1932: Siam’s army seizes Bangkok and announces an end to the absolute monarchy

This success was achieved by the Siamese Revolution in a coup defeat in 1932. This revolution was a nearly-bloodless transition of Siam into a constitutional monarchy system of government. It is considered to be a moot event in the 20th century.

1949: South Africa begins implementing apartheid; no mixed marriages

This was brought into effect by the Mixed Marriages Act, 1949. It was an apartheid law in South Africa that prohibited marriages between “Europeans” and “non-Europeans”. It was enacted by the Parliament of South Africa.
