February 11 is the day to celebrate all the inventors without whom we couldn’t have been writing about this day, sitting in a well-lit room on the flip of a switch, getting food out of the microwave, or even typing on the keyboard of a laptop. The date not only enables us to laud the inventors but also to celebrate and honor the major accomplishments of women and girls in science. And to concentrate even more on girls who are into Science, Technology, and Engineering (STEM) professions. This day is an opportunity to empower women and girls to have complete and equitable access to and involvement in science.

National Inventor’s Day
The inventiveness of mankind separates us from any other species on our planet and we can experience our evolution as a species with our inventions. The National Day of Inventors honors inventors of the past, creators of the present, and promotes innovators of the future. The Day celebrates the genius behind the design and dives into the history behind some of our most unusual inventions as well.
History of this day
On 11 February 1983, United States. President Ronald Reagan proclaimed the day as National Inventors Day. The date has been chosen since Thomas Alva Edison, America’s greatest inventor was born this day. It was in Milan, Ohio, in 1847. Edison is been better known to invent the bulb. However, there are over 1,000 patents rights. Thomas Edison and all inventors will be celebrated on National Inventors Day. They recognize the tremendous innovations that influence business and world society.

International Day of Women and Girls in Science
The International Women and Girls Day in Science offers a voice for understanding how critically women and girls can overcome the major challenges of today through their active contribution to science & technology. Only about 30% of all female students choose STEM-related fields of higher education, according to UNESCO (2014-2016) results. Moreover, globally the number of women enrolled is lower compared to men in the fields of natural sciences, mathematics, and statistics.

Many women are not able to lead the scientific and technical field because of gender prejudice and lack of representation. It is important to resolve these issues and to actively encourage the participation of women to improve women’s engagement and eliminate the predispositions in industry. This day provides us with an opportunity to show our full support to all those women and girls who want to take a step further in the STEM industry.
