Today – 28 July

We have successfully completed half a year. 2020 is flying by like a shooting star, and here we are at July. It is a long year ahead just like the months that went by. The days that passed have taught us many things and we are going to rock the rest of the months as well. We bring to you the different reasons we should be celebrating each day through this Today column so read on to know why you should.

Every year there is a Forbes list of the wealthiest people in the world. All of us must have dreamt once to be on the list someday, with many of us working towards being the list. But, many times we while setting futuristic goals, and devising the next leap on our journey, undermine the present achievement.

We always think of the present pedestal as not worthy of celebration, as yet there is so much to achieve. This serves as motivation too, but why disregard the struggles that have taken us to where we are, however, small it maybe? Let us celebrate all baby steps we make so that when we are at the top, all the milestones shine just like the peak.

“Just a flicker through the sky,

But, mighty enough to shake it up for a moment.”

Sneha

We have another reason to celebrate today. The best way of utilizing knowledge is spreading it to many more people and letting it spread. Today is ‘World Hepatitis Day’, a need of the hour awareness.

Although there have been several memes and jokes all over social media about how the year 2020 has been a disappointment, and we would like to reboot the year if given a chance. But, 2020 has given us a lesson on many levels. From changing the perception of life to revamping our priority list, 2020 should be seen as a year of learning. Ironically, it took a pandemic to all we ‘living’ beings to realize, the biggest asset of life is to live, and we need to pamper our health to achieve the same. It was always there that Health is Wealth, but we needed a year like this one to highlight it to us enough. With a similar cause, we have World Hepatitis Day.

Hepatitis is characterized by the inflammation of the liver, and further gets divided into 5 sub-categories, namely A, B, C, D, and E. Millions of lives fall prey to this deadly disease each year and many people suffer all their lives from chronic Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C diseases, yet do not know of their condition. This calls for an urgent need for disease control and proper awareness across boundaries to the common folk. Thus, in 2010 the World Health Organization started World Hepatitis Day on the 28th of July, every year. This year the theme set is ‘Finding the missing millions’, aiming to find all the people who have been living with the illness due to unawareness.

To celebrate the day, spread awareness about the day as much as you can and help people in your vicinity, who might be suffering from the same. Also, spread awareness about the day and help people know about this, and in turn create a chain of awareness.
