Let us read on to how Reality Tech interacts with spaces
You must have come across the terms of virtual and augmented reality and will be well versed in what they are. If not, then the illustrations below will explain them better to you. In simpler terms, reality technologies or reality tech aims to create a user experience that does not exist truly but still can instill our senses. Through different modulations and undulations, these make the human mind to believe in unreal things because it creates a next level multi-sensory interaction.
There is an immense number of applications of both virtual and augmented reality. Let us read on to how these realities can affect the spaces we live in and where all these can be applied.
Introduction
Humans interact with spaces in three different ways – the way people depend on different resources for livelihood, the way people adapt to the environment to fulfill their needs, and the way people modify spaces around them. The spaces we live in are changing every day with the land being limited and the world population on a rise. In addition to the ongoing pandemic, the interaction of human beings with spaces has changed to a greater extend. The concepts of multi-use furniture and minimalism have brought about small spaces to function much more efficiently and effectively.
As the global trends shift towards technological advancements, the spaces become more interactive, functionally efficient, and user friendly.
How do different realities interact?
What we hear and see is what we perceive to judge and understand in order to interact in a space. This is where VR, AR, and MR come into play to create any surrounding fun and more interactive. These technologies are created to stimulate multimodal environments using different elements like sounds, visuals, sync, etc. These realities work on simulation and the integration of feedback modalities.
3D sound most actively correspond to the location of sound sources to the location of visual images. This instills the human mind with illusions and makes it believe as if it’s interacting in a real environment. Let us look at some examples of the MR.
Interactive, Digital Art Museum, Tokyo
This is an Interactive Digital Art Museum that opened two years ago in 2018 in Tokyo. There are five zones in the museum.
- Borderless World – Visitors create their own path by walking through digitized waterfalls, touch birds, and wander across computer-generated forests and fields. Here time is continuously changing with different seasons. It exists now but you’ll never be able to see it the same way again.
- Athletics Forest – Intended to train the brain and get people moving according to teamLab with visitors climbing on flashing poles, bouncing on a trampoline through a galaxy simulation, and balancing on hanging boards that dangle in a show of colorful lights.
- Future Park – Designed for children with various activities to expand their imagination and teach scientific concepts.
- Forest of Resonating Lamps – A sea full of colorful lamps with light spreading one to another by touch.
- En Tea House – Visitors sip green tea with AR creating digital flowers bloom inside the cups. This instills calmness and encourages interaction among them while having tea.
Periscopista
Periscopista is an interactive installation made up of recyclable material controlled by the data of the festival crowd. This installation showcases that it idata used to is to give you back something good. In a world that uses data to chase you down with ads on your social media. This mist installation is as curious about you as you are about her. If you give her attention, she will flourish in psychedelic. The data from the festival crowd was given back to the people at the end of the day. This resulted in an overwhelming psychedelic cloud that connects the people with their festival surrounding in new and innovative ways.
Applications:
-
Architecture/ Designing –
VR has a great scope in the construction, fashion, and automobile design industry from helping designers and clients visualize better. From how spaces will look like before construction can help resolve a lot of design challenges. At the same time, the architects’ vision can be better communicated with the client. A lot of damaged heritage sites can be reimagined using VR and boost tourism.
-
Entertainment / Animation –
4DX, 3D movies earlier and now, VR themed parks are some of the examples established to create an immersive entertainment experience. The user can now explore different visual environments through HMD (head-mounted display). Interactive spaces which sense the movements of the user to determine the actions of the interactive tools use AI.
- Video Games – With the huge demand for better-integrated graphics to create a great visual impact. Aiming to create a more extraordinary real lifelike user experience, video games have tried to instill VR and AR to its maximum potential. This usher to create a new era for the gaming industry in the coming future.
- Military- For military training, VR has one of the best implementations in practice. It intends to create visual effects and analyze the performance of the person in a combat situation.
-
Education/ Skilled Trades-
Classroom learning can be practical and fun with VR and AR applications. This can readily give hands-on experience to students of any level. This will provide better practical knowledge of how things work and function. It will also be cost-effective without using supplements or training equipment.
- Healthcare- VR and AR are not new in the healthcare industry for not just therapy but also help in training doctors and surgeons. These realities can also aid Differently abled people to help them lead an independent and better quality of life.
- Air and Space – Astronauts in NASA train using VR to make them more responsive to problems that might occur in space during a mission.
-
Travel –
You can have guided 360-degree vision tours, visit different locations which might help you decide where to plan your next trip to. Experience new adventures from anywhere at any time.
Conclusion
With the transforming world and upgrading technology, the most recent and yet in its developing stage is Mixed or Merged reality which is a combination of virtual and augmented reality. Mixed reality has the power to create a new world with a great vision ahead.
