Have you thought about how an idea comes to mind? An ideator sits on his table and clears the contents on the surface. Then he reinstates inspiration within him. Finally, he pens down what he believes will change the face of the world. Well, for decades these idealists were being noticed. The Nobel Prize has diverged into five sections. Alfred Nobel was the founder of this esteemed award. Furthermore, he wrote a few words in his will. He said, “This prize will be awarded to those who during the preceding year, have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind.” 

The different fields of awards are Literature, Medicine, Physics, Chemistry, and Peace. The Peace Prize has always grabbed a great sense of attention. Additionally, this award is awarded “to the person who has done the most or best to advance fellowship among nations, the abolition or reduction of standing armies, and the establishment and promotion of peace congresses.”

 

Alfred Nobel, the Father of Greatness:

Alfred Nobel founded the Nobel Prize. He was a chemist by profession and a Godfather to many. He was also an engineer and an industrialist. Everyone knew him for his invention of dynamite. It was his imparted assets that established as the five prizes. There also is a sixth award in the field of Economics. This was the Nobel Memorial Prize. Alfred Nobel took inspiration from his father. Moreover, he learned all his basics from him. In all, Alfred Nobel was a great man and gave the world invaluable assets. It was his greatness that brought forward the hidden talents of many. Today, we stand on such a pedestal where we need miracles. We need World Peace. And awards as such will build the foundation of unknown adventures tomorrow. 

 

The Nobel Firsts:

There is always a first time. Some Nobel Prizes created history. Hence, today we explore through the various fields of awards. Moreover, who was the first idealist to have won these prizes? This article not only commemorates these legends but also inspires future laureates.

The First-ever award ceremony:

The very first ceremony was on 10th December 1901. One extraordinary thing about this ceremony was there was a lot of mystery in the air. The names of all the awardees were kept secret. Moreover, only special foundation members were responsible for the list of names. Nowadays, members of the foundation reveal the winners months in advance. Although, the aura of the first ceremony shed a completely different light. There was immense tension between the nominees. Additionally, it was a memorable event for us to remember in the future. 

 

The gleaming first : 

Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen was the first Nobel laureate in the field of Physics. The story began in 1895. In the November of this year, the fluorescent lights in William’s laboratory baffled him. Conrad was interested in how the cathode ray tubes were emitting lights. Furthermore, he was intrigued by why this mysterious glow was occurring. Innumerable sleepless nights caused him to win the first Nobel Prize ever in Physics. What was extraordinary about this invention was the discovery of a new form of energy. William Conrad called this energy X- rays. The name took inspiration from the enigmatic nature of these rays. 

 

The Chemical Balance:

In 1901, Jacobus H. Van’t Hoff won the first Nobel prize in the sector of Chemistry. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for the study on Osmotic pressure and chemical equilibrium. Hoff began the research almost 15 years before he was awarded for his investigation. Jacobus in detail studied the nuances of osmotic pressure. There always existed a hunch about the chemical pressure in the 19th century. But it was only after the intense study of Jacobus that brought it under the radar. Why our first laureate was so keen on the research in this field was to put forth the integral role it played in plant and animal life. 

 

The Curing Serum:

Emil Von Behring won the first Nobel Prize in medicine. He was the founder of serum therapy. Behring began his career as an assistant to Robert Koch. Along with his guidance, he began his study on therapeutic serum. This was a finding against the illness, Diphtheria. This was also a cure against tetanus. The research constituted immunizing rats, guinea pigs, and rabbits. In 1891, the first serum therapy became successful. It was a historic moment in the past of medicine. Eventually, the researchers started conducting experiments on sheep and horses. It was an iconic weapon against illness and death.

The first Nobel Laureate in Literature was Sully Prudhomme. Sully was a French Poet and essayist. He was widely appreciated for his poetic compositions. They were full of lofty idealism and artistic expertise. It was a rare combination of both the qualities of the heart and the brain. He not only wrote path-breaking poetry but also created a name for himself. The Nobel Prize was only the beginning. Moving forward he won multiple awards for his poetry and his work. His poems were highly modern for the times he was living in.

The Nobel Peace Prize is a great honor. Furthermore, Henry Dunant won the first Nobel Peace Prize. Also, they are three-time recipients. Worldwide they are known for their great work in the upliftment of humankind. He founded this organization. And, also put in great humanitarian efforts to change the world. In times like those, he was the pioneer in World Peace. The Nobel Prize foundation held Dunant in high regard. He laid the everlasting path for the future peacemakers. He was only setting the foundation. But, he expected the upcoming generations to follow in his footsteps.

With 2020, we learned to adapt to a lot of novel additions to our lives. Having said that, the Nobel Prize foundation held the ceremony virtually last year. This was one of the most thrilling firsts that the Nobel ceremony had ever seen. The award ceremony had all the awardees attend the prize ceremony online. And, eventually they received their awards as they were mailed to them. This gesture shows nothing can stop us. We do not fail to appreciate the great legends of this generation!

 

In conclusion, we all thrive to be different. We are born different and grow up unique. The Nobel Prize is the ultimate recognition for those unique features. Be it Peace or be it medicine. It was all done to change the perspectives of human beings. These legendary discoveries set the expectations high. Since then, we have progressed manifolds. We have revolutionized how we looked at simple things. Our forefather say, “The beauty lies in the eyes of the Beholder”. The upcoming generation has a lot to prove, but never forget if they could do it so can we!
