New Year’s Eve is the day when the last day of the year is celebrated. This day encourages one to forget about the mistakes of the year and look forward to the upcoming opportunities. Moreover, people tend to make new resolutions. This is the same short term plan made every year to make up for the flaws of the previous years’. However, people celebrate the day hoping that the coming year to bring them much more happiness and prosperity. Apart from that, they wish each other good luck and meet to welcome the New Year.
HISTORY
On October 4, 1582, Pope Gregory XIII replaced the former Roman calendar with the Gregorian calendar. The Roman calendar was based on the lunar cycle of the earth and moon. A solar year defined the Roman Calendar. However, the change from the Roman to Gregorian calendar called for eliminate a few days in between. October 4, 1582, was followed by October 15, 1582. In other words, the Gregorian calendar celebrates December 31 as New Year Eve. Some people celebrate the new year on April 4 each year. Eventually, the date was switched to January 1 to honor the Roman god Janus, the god of doorways and beginnings.
HOW TO CELEBRATE?
New Year’s celebration starts on the eve. People get together to spend time with their families. People also organize parties. The New Year’s Eve parties primarily comprise of champagne, toasts, and a fine dinner. In addition, there are parades and firework shows at midnight. Barbara Condron first observed this day on October 25, 1995. She discovered the day while was studying at a metaphysics school. However, people now observe it from 11.30 p.m. on December 31 to 12.30 a.m. on January 1st.
HOW TO CELEBRATE?
There are no dinner parties or decorations. There are just low-key gatherings where people reminisce the best memories of the passing year. People are oblivious to the bad experience and forgive others. In addition, they focus on how to a better person. Some people meditate on their breath or join prayer groups.
