1900 – Bernhard von Bülow became German Chancellor
The full name of Bernhard von Bülow was Bernhard Heinrich Karl Martin von Bülow. He served Germany as a Finance Minister for three years before becoming the chancellor.
Bernhard von Bülow became the chancellor of Germany on October 17, 1900, and served the country for nine years i.e. 1900 to 1909. He devoted his chancellorship single-mindedly to making Germany a leading power on the world stage.
In 1905, he created Furst von Bülow. In his country, Bernhard von Bülow was presiding over sustained economic growth and technological advancement. He also pursued a policy of German aggrandizement in the years preceding World War I in cooperation with Emperor William II.
1907 – Guglielmo Marconi laid the first commercial transatlantic wireless service
Guglielmo Giovanni Maria Marconi was the full name of Guglielmo Marconi. He was an Italian inventor and electrical engineer. He was well known for his pioneering work in long-distant radio-transmission.
He was the developer of Marconi’s law and a radio telegram system. He was been credited for the invention of the radio. He was also awarded Nobel Prize in 1909 for Physics.
On both sides of the Atlantic, Marconi started to build high-powered stations to communicate with ships at sea, to compete with other inventors. He established a commercial service which used to transmit nightly news of the summaries to subscribing ships, in 1904.
Finally, in 1907, on October 17, Marconi’s company established the first commercial transatlantic wireless service between Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada and Clifden, Ireland.
1979 – Jimmy Carter signed the legislation of creating the Department of Education
The United States Department of Education (ED or 
DoED), also referred to as the ED for the Education Department is a Cabinet-level department under the government of the United States.
The Department of Education was created after the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare spitted into the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Education.
Department of Education was created under the Department of Education Organization Act, which was signed by Jimmy Carter, US President of that time on October 17, 1979.
On May 4, 1980, the Department of Education began operation.
2003 – Taipei became the world’s tallest skyscape
Taipei 101, which is formerly known as Taipei World Financial Center was designed by C.Y. Lee and C.P. Wang. Taipei 101 is situated in Xinyi, Taipei, Taiwan.
Taipei 101 was officially declared as World’s tallest high-rise on the day of the inauguration in 2004 till 2009, in 2010 Burj Khalifa in UAE, own the competition of becoming the world tallest skyscape.
On October 17, 2003, Pinnacle was placed on Taipei 101. On the New Eve of 2004, the formal opening of Taipei 101 was done.
