
Our history is a cause of celebration and reflection. It is a source of inspiration. There have been uncountable inventions, innovations, treaties, and other significant events in the past and all of them have something to teach us, to inspire us to keep going and not to stop even if we fail. The Wasp
1802: 1st comic book “The Wasp” is published in Hudson, New York criticizing Republican politicians
Will you believe, the first comic in the world named “The Wasp” was published in 1802? It was known for concealing political allegory and rhetoric, this small sheet publication was a biting commentary about the Republican politicians, starting with President Thomas Jefferson.
1853: Japan opens its ports to trade with the West after 250 years of isolation
This is an important milestone in the history of international trade between the United States and Japan. American Commodore Matthew Perry led his four ships into the harbor at Tokyo Bay, seeking to re-establish for the first time in over 200 years regular trade and discourse between Japan and the western world.
1925: Afrikaans is recognized as one of the official languages of South Africa, along with English and Dutch
Afrikaans is a West Germanic language spoken mainly in South Africa and in small parts of Zimbabwe and Botswana. In 2016, language Afrikaans had 7.2 million native speakers. It is said to be a daughter language of Dutch. It has adopted words from other languages like German and Khoisan languages.

Christopher Stone
1927: Christopher Stone became the first British ‘disc jockey’ when he plays records for the BBC.
Born on September 19, 1882, Major Christopher Reynolds Stone was the first disc jockey in the United Jockey. He published a book on Sea songs and ballads in 1906 and also wrote the history of his old regiment in 1923.
1928: Sliced bread sold for the first time by the Chillicothe Baking Company, Missouri
On July 7, 1928, sliced bread was sold for the first time by the Chillicothe Baking Company in Missouri using a machine invented by Otto Frederick Rohwedder. It was described as the greatest forward step in the baking industry since bread was wrapped. They named their product as Kleen Maid Sliced Bread, which proved to be a success.

Hoover Dam
1930: Construction begins on Boulder (Hoover) Dam
Hoover Dam was known to be the largest dam of its time. The construction of this dam started on July 7, 1930. For the next five years, a total of 21,000 men worked ceaselessly to produce one of the largest manmade structures in the world. Its complete construction took 30 years.
1981: Sandra Day O’Connor became the first woman to serve on the Supreme Court
Sandra Day O’Connor became the first woman to serve as a justice on the United States Supreme Court in 1981. Long before she would weight in on some of the nation’s most pressing cases, she spent part of her childhood on her family’s Arizona ranch. O’Connor was adept at riding and assisted with some of the ranch duties. She was born on March 26, 1930.
