If you see your mother going out every day, it is to buy presents. If you see your father being secretive, he is either planning on becoming Santa for this year. Or he is helping your mother in wrapping the presents. After all, Christmas is just around the corner. Until then, let us take this day to read up about some fascinating events that took place on December 14 in the past years.
1752 – Theresian Military Academy founded
Founded in 1752, December 14, the Theresian Military Academy of Austria is one of the oldest military academies in the world. You may be wondering how fine this institute is. Well, the cadets who graduate from here are some of the finest officers and righteous men. Even now, the graduates are just as remarkable. Even more so! With the advancement in studies and training, these officers are always prepared for anything. The Academics included are not just subjected to military courses. The trainees have the opportunity to study a Bachelor of English. Also, they have a course which is the Bachelor’s Programme in Military Leadership.
1900 – Quantum theory
Max Karl Ernst Ludwig Planck is a German theoretical physicist. He won the Nobel Physics Prize in 1918. What got him there is his theory of quantum. The theory constituted of atomic and subatomic processes. Radiation and quanta of energy along with the disproval of his own laws lead to the formulation of the quantum theory. The second law of thermodynamics is the absolute law of nature. The same law is a statistical law now. In 1900, he did this discovery. It did set him a little on edge as he had to disprove himself to do so. But the pride of being a physicist is more. Therefore on December 14, he presented the quantum theory paper to the Berlin board of Physics.
1911 – The South Pole Discovered
The South Pole is extremely cold, skin freezing, and toe breaking. Reaching the point is close to impossible. And coming back is an even higher risk. But we humans are resilient. Captain Roald Amundsen and four of his teammates did the impossible! On December 14, 1911, He and his comrades reached the peak point between the calculated ice barriers and mountains. Weeks of dangerous trekking and traveling. Bare minimum supplies and the communicating device to send back data. The team back on low land deciphered Roald’d data. And then concluded that indeed he and his team reached the South Pole.
1916 – America’s first certified doctoral board
Chaos is imminent when there is no structure, nor order. In fact, even in the case of doctors and treatments, this applies. When you study medicine, you are given a license for the practice. Back then for years, this license did not exist. An alternative taken up by authorities is to create aboard. Where only qualified students can practice medicine. Therefore the United States launched the board certification. On December 14, 1916, the board approves its very first doctors. These doctors successfully passed the University of Tennessee Medical School examination. And thus began the swarm of qualified top-class doctors who the people rely on very much.
2016 – Oldest Water Found
We know that the oldest dinosaur bones are found. And even the oldest tree is located. But, have you ever heard of the oldest existing water is found? Yes, Scientists from the University of Toronto have successfully found the oldest possible water. In a mine in Canada. At first glance, the Scientists calculated the pool of water to be 1.5 billion years old. After performing the tests, it turned out that the water is in fact 2 billion years old! This water is filled with zinc, copper, and silver mine. And is bubbling with the minerals and earth core heat.
2016 – First drone delivery: Amazon
Quick delivery packages plus drones, that is the perfect equation for fun and efficient delivery. With almost thirty pound packages, Amazon flew out drones carrying these packages. Hiring a fleet of drones for simple packages delivery may seem like an over investment. And unnecessary expense. Additionally, package delivery via drones is easily trackable. In fact, it even reduced damages. Although this is a trial test by Amazon, they were able to manage delivery to almost two and a half miles from their warehouse in the UK on December 14, 2016.
