The End of a Musical Band Era – Daft Punk

So today let us take you on a journey. Remember those times when maybe DJ Khalid or Drake was doing a concert nearby? You called all your friends, informed them. Got all enthusiastic and excited. Then, finally, it was time for you to attend the concert. And oh! the feeling of bobbing your heads to those electrifying beats. Well, those were good times you would say. In the past, we have had path-breaking bands who have helped us get through the phases of our life. Not only did they pump everyone’s heartbeats to the maximum. But also they engraved a forever place in our heart. Well, one such band was Daft Punk. Well, we know this band name hits some emotional cords, but that is what we are here for.

To help you reminisce about their three-decade-long journey. So if you are a music lover or a Daft Punk fan read on.

The Musical History:

Back in 1993, Guy- Manuel de Homem- Christo Thomas Bangalter dreamt the same dream. They were two Parisian guys with a great passion for electronic music. Although they formed in 1993, people started

recognizing them in the late 90s. They played an integral role in the French House movement of music. Furthermore, their fans loved them for house music combined with funk, techno, and disco. Moreover, they also made indie rock and pop music. People considered them to be one of the most influential duos in dance music history.

But these boys did not stop at that. With time, they experimented drum machines, synthesizers, and the talk box. They called their debut album ‘Homework’. Well, fans tell us that they both met back in 1987. And since then they have been unstoppable. Their entire journey is interesting. They decided to start a band after attending a rave themselves. They then released music with some of the most influential music

Daft Punk

producers. Additionally, they came up with well-known albums such as ‘Da Funk’ and ‘Alive’. The most exciting fact about these two music-loving dudes was that they never showed their faces. Their vibe was always futuristic. Eventually, they started doing live shows. One thing fans were seen going gaga over was their out-of-the-world space helmets. Some even said, “it was the best concert they attended”.

Moving on, Daft Punk released many albums. They released ‘Discovery’ in 2001. However, this was shocking for their fans. Because this album was completely different from their previous album. But, Daft Punk was famous for surprises. They revealed that this album was a reconnect to childhood. The feeling of open-mindedness and carefree attitude. They went on to release albums like ‘Human After All’ and ‘Random Access Memories’.

Interesting Facts about the Band:

The ‘Beach Boys’

Our French musicians previously named their band ‘Beach Boys’. This was a small band with one extra member. Lauren Brancowitz was their guitarist. Although, the British Music magazine gave this trio a very harsh review. They did not receive the fandom they have now. The magazine reviewed and said, “their music was daft punky trash”. And, yes. You guessed it right. That is how they got their name.

The oh-so-costly helmets

An interesting fact about this duo is how much their headwear costs. You would say, it is only a helmet. What are helmets going to cost anyways? Well, you are wrong. Those helmets cost a good fortune. The fans call these artistic helmets their artistic gimmick. Moreover, $65,000. Yes, you read that right. Tony Gardener designed them for the duo. The 50s classic movie ‘The Day the Earth stood Still’ was his inspiration.

‘The Simpsons Saga’

Do you know the character from ‘The Simpsons’, Disco Stu? The most amazing fact is that he wore his Daft Punk costume in the show. How cool is that? This was a robot costume. Furthermore, the episode where this incident occurred was ‘The Day the Earth stood Cool’.

A no-no to Bowie:

One of the biggest talks of the town was when Daft Punk denied David Bowie. He wanted to create a remix with the duo. But, Daft Punk was not interested. This is shocking because they have majorly worked with some of the biggest music names in the industry. Although, the reason behind this controversy is still unknown.

The expensive movie production:

The Daft Punk fans were in awe of them when they invested $4 million for a movie. This movie was Interstella 5555. The duo called the movie ‘The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem’. It took them a good three years to produce this film. Additionally, they worked with Japanese designer Matsumoto. Every character of the movie was a creative animation product of Matsumo’s creations throughout his career.

The Heartbreaking Split:

Daft Punk

If you have been reading the news lately, the most heartbreaking news surfaced a few days back. On February 22, Daft Punk announced their departure. But, they did this as innovatively as possible. On their YouTube channel, they released an eight-minute video. They named it ‘Epilogue’. This video was choreographed as a tribute to their thirty-year-long admirers. In the video, there are two robots. Eventually, one explodes, while the other walks away. The title card read “1993- 2021”.

Like any big news, rumors started flying. Some said they revealed their faces, and hence, it was the end of their motive to be a secret. Then some said, they were announcing retirement and a lifetime of good songs as a legacy. But, truly the real reason is still unknown. Having said that, these multiple Grammy award winners created a legacy to follow.

Conclusion:

In our last words, we will only say, legends never die. They live forever through our eternal memories. This pair created an unforgettable journey for the fans to follow. They inspired millions of people and showed the world the reality of electronic music. Daft Punk created a global platform for every musician out there who does not believe in themselves. Split or no split, this duo has created music that no one will forget for ages to come. So this is goodbye on their behalf to all their fans. Remember their life lesson ‘follow your dreams and passions, irrelevant of what the world says”.
