World Teen Mental Wellness Day
Introduction
From the past year, the entire has come to a standstill. None of us thought that all our world would be paused by the coronavirus. In these Covid-19 times, anxiety, depression, and loneliness became everyone’s experience. So, on March 2, we celebrate World Teen Mental Health Wellness Day. The main aim to celebrate this day is to create awareness among teenagers. Also, to give knowledge about releasing the stigma attached to mental illness. According to the statistics of the American Psychology Association, the mental health condition of Gen Z is scaring than of any generation. However, Covid-19 brings more awareness to people for their health (both physical and mental). Thus, raising awareness regarding mental health will result in the improvement of the whole generation’s mental health.
History
This World Teen Mental Wellness Day was started by Hollister in 2020. Hollister is an organization whose initiative is to raise awareness and funds about the ongoing world issues to help teenagers. This is the first day which is primarily for the mental wellness of teenagers. From the year 2020, it was confirmed that this day will celebrate every year.
How to celebrate?
The initiative by Hollister encourages teens all over the world to use March 2 as an opportunity to raise awareness. Hollister also encourages them to practice self-love and let their self-doubt quiet with the help of some techniques:
• Take a blissful journey within nature to rewire your mental health. (e.g. exercise)
• First learn to love yourself to love others!! (if you can’t learn to love yourself, then how you’re going to love someone else?)
• Check with your friends and family to help them.
Hollister also promotes an online campaign that invites teens to tweet and post on Instagram with #WorldTeenMentalWellnessDay on March 2. They announce that $1 will be donated to the Hollister fund for the first 12,000 posts.
National Read Across America Day (Dr. Seuss Day)
Dr. Seuss day (also National Read Across America Day) celebrated yearly on March 2 to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Although it’s not only about Seuss’ birthday, also to celebrate his legacy and work. The Dr. Seuss day focuses on encouraging reading among children from school age. This day (March 2) calls out every youth and child from the entire U.S. to celebrate reading wherever they are. Thus, there are some ways to inspire reading among children:
• Make a read list of books for yourself. Every book has its meaning!! So, read a book every day for an hour from your read list.
• Visit your nearby library often for some time. By visiting a library, children will learn how to use the library. Also, they will develop a love for reading.
• Read to children. No matter how old they are, in what standard they are, read some good books to them. Reading aloud will improve their vocabulary. Also, have your children read. Generally, children acquire things they see in their daily life. If they see you reading a newspaper or book, surely, they will make it a habit. Who knows you will learn something as learning has no limit!!
