On January 17, we will be celebrating two important World events. While World Snow Day offers more than just fun and games, World Religion day wants us to introspect. With the new year, let’s revisit ideas behind choosing and following a faith. Also know more about how ISF promotes Snowboarding and Skiing.
World Snow Day
Introduction
Who doesn’t love snow? A snowman, Snowball fights, Skiing, etc are some of the most beautiful and popular snow activities. If you love winters and cannot wait to play with snow, this is your day. The International Ski Federation announces World Snow Day annually to promote snow sports. It also releases a trailer supporting twenty languages. Do check out this year’s International Snow Day video.
History
ISF aims to increase the global promotion and development of skiing and snowboarding. Research shows that participation in snow sports has significantly decreased. ISF aims to reverse this since 2007. On the main website, ISF states their other reason which is to guide the young mind towards a more environmentally friendly lifestyle. Changing mindset towards the environment of future industrialist and future politicians will also bring change to our future.
How to Celebrate?
If you have a kid who is enthusiastic about Snowboarding or skiing, you can register for ISF’s annual event. Here you can find a manual as to how to organise or participate in their annual event. You can also amplify the cause of the event. “Bring Children to Snow” Campaign’s official video will provide you with more insight about today’s worldwide event. Also, learn more about global warming and its impact on Snow. As we stated, this day also educates the young mind of becoming a conscious citizen.
World Religion Day
Introduction
In difficult times, we always seek a force greater than us. Hope and prayers often assure that better days will come. While there are many religions across the world, the idea behind each is the same. Believer or non-believer, the ultimate aim is to induce love and support towards humanity. This day not only encourages the idea of practising the religion but also the idea that birthed the religion.
History
The National Spiritual Assembly of the Baháʼí believes in the unity of religion. They highlight the spiritual idea behind every religion which creates a step closer to the brotherhood. On December 8, 1949, this event was standardised by the United States. While the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’í doesn’t participate actively in promoting, but it still records the annual event. This year, it falls on January 17. You can read more about it here.
How to Celebrate?
Since this event aims to promote world harmony, we need to introspect. For instance, write down, what religion is to you? What changes does it bring to your life? How did it improve you towards being a better person? Also, try to understand the faith that others follow. While we have a different religion, the idea behind it is justice and peace. Unity is not when you encourage someone to believe what you believe. It is when you decide to understand and accept them with their set of faith.
