Everyday we celebrate different special days. We celebrate them in order to cherish what we have and how it has changed our lives. Similarly, today, we celebrate two days, that is  International Hot and Spicy Foods Day and Religious Freedom Day. Both of these days lies on January 16, every year. Let us read more about these days knowing a little of their historic symbolization and how can we celebrate them today.

 International Hot and Spicy Foods Day

Little do we know that we have been using hot spices in our meals for more than six thousand years ago. It is these spices that makes our boring day to day meal so delicious. And, the meals would be so boring without them. From hot chili powder to cumin and paprika, January 16, is all about celebrating them. The most spicy cuisine in the world is of Thailand. Followed by Mexico, Malaysia, Korea, Jamaica and India.

History

As you read earlier, people have incorporated spices in their recipes from a very long back. As early as six thousand years. We use spices in our meals not just because it makes them tasty but also because they have many health benefit. Many spices have antimicrobial and antioxidant properties like turmeric and cumin. They can kill the bacteria in our body and have been used in many Ayurvedic medicines for over centuries. Studies have shown that various spices can lower your appetite and increase your metabolism as well.

How To Celebrate

You can celebrate the  International Hot and Spicy Foods Day in so many ways. You can have a themed dinner with your friends and families. Moreover, you can make any Asian cuisine, like Indian, Thai or Mexican. Also, you may have a cook-off with your friends. If you cannot make them at home, you can also enjoy a spicy feast at any local restaurant that serves these cuisine. However, you can also learn about different spices available and their origin. And in what cuisine they are majorly used.

Religious Freedom Day

Religions and religious organizations have inspired people to be kinder and humbler on a daily basis. It has encouraged humans to be more sympathetic to the plight of their fellow man. Over the years, people that share common beliefs have came together to form religious organizations. Although choosing religion must be a personal choice, but sometimes people who are in power, start forcing their thoughts and beliefs on others. Therefore, the reason why religious freedom must be granted to protect everyone.

History

The celebration of Religious Freedom Day began on January 16, 1786. it came into existence as the United States of America became a sovereign nation. The Virginia General Assembly adopted Thomas Jefferson’s landmark Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom. The statue  guarantees religious freedom to all people residing in the U.S.A.

How To Celebrate

You can celebrate the Religious Freedom Day in many ways. First of all, you must know the importance of this event. For this you can read many books that highlight this event. Many of these books have been adapted into movies also. Some of them are, The Name of the Rose, The Witch of The Blackbird Pond, The Diary of a Young Girl, etc. You can also discuss this topic in your book or film club and teach your children about the importance of it.
