The clock never stops, the hands keep rushing at their pace, and we need to keep up with them. Not every day brings in excitement and showers of joy, some days we stumble upon disappointments. But, to stay gloomy and embrace melancholy or just shatter them from within. In simple words, we are sad when we choose to be. So here, we bring to you several reasons to make today count and celebrate each day. The Today column brings to you the reasons to celebrate each day!

Mighty mountains and great rocks have been shaped by flowing rivers and streams. Although these streams of water may seem unlikely weapons, they still flow right through the hardest of rocks and boulders. The secret is in persistence, they have been on their course for millions of years without being diverted even once. Thus, the message is clear. If we are focused on our pursuits and remain persistent, we can run our way through the thickest of obstacles in the world and move ahead.

“A river cuts through rock

Not because of its power but

Because of its persistence.”

Jim Walkins

We have another reason to celebrate today. Let us put some party into our otherwise, hectic work life. Today is ‘International Lefthanders Day’, the perfect occasion to celebrate.

Today, we celebrate international left-handers day so, from scissors to knives, Left-Handers, or Southpaws, are the force of jokes all year long for diverse things. But, this is the day to pay no attention to that, and bring consciousness to all the right-handed folk around the world. In the festivity of Left-Handers Day, after while right-handed people function on the left side of their brain, and left-handed people utilize the right side. Consequently, only left-handed people are in their right side of the mind.

History of Left-Handers Day

Celebrating its first-ever year documented in 1976, Left handers International, helped to raise awareness of the difficulties and problems that left-handed people face. Being accused of witchcraft in the 1600s for just utilizing one hand more than the other, was only the starting. With just 10 percent of the population being left-handed, a variety of items are much more expensive and costly than their right-handed counterparts. Objects like scissors, knives, and even school desks can see a markup of about 75 percent more for left-handed persons. And, golf clubs see as much as a 200 percent increase dependent on the brand.

Ways that we can celebrate left handers day

It is not difficult to bring up the difficulties to those with right-handed tendencies and make them empathize. This could be simply enough done by asking them to use left-handed scissors in their right hands. Just the uneasiness alone tends to be enough to bring people around to understanding.

Introduce them to the intrinsic problems of having a left-hander paring knife in their right hand. Show them how coffee mugs are made with the picture and writing, so one would have to use the cup in the right to make use of it as it was intended. Or the computer mouse, which is intended for a right-handed person, becomes complicated without knowing how to exchange it to the left-handed model. It is also important to understand and normalize left-handers, and not alienate or joke about their ability. Spread the word about what today is, and its significance.
