Books are very important in our lives and libraries are the home to the books. In the history of today’s date, October 16, Bibliotheca Alexandria, a modern and cultural library was inaugurated.

Fiction novels are very famous among the readers, and the origin of the way fiction novels are born is bewildering. Today, a great fiction tale with a great effect on psychology paves its way in the history of October 16.

Flights are no more our luxury, they have become a necessity for us and this luxury cum necessity was first made in England on October 16 in pages of history.

Let us take a dig into the pages of the history of October 16 and know some interesting events of the date, first flight in England, the inauguration of Bibliotheca Alexandria, Jane Eyre was published, Skye Bridge was opened, and the extension of complex numbers.

1843 – A non-commutative extension of complex numbers by Sir William Rowan Hamilton

Sir Hamilton was well familiarized with the complex numbers that they could be interpreted as points in two-dimension (plane) and he wanted to show complex numbers on three-dimension.

On October 16, 1843, Sir William Rowan Hamilton introduced quaternions in Dublin. He was on his way to Royal Irish Academy to attend a council meeting when he got the formula of quaternions in his mind, which he carved on the wall of the Royal Canal.

His formula derivation included the work of Euler’s four-square identity and Olinde Rodrigues’ parameterization of general rotations by four parameters.

1847 – Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre Published

Jane Eyre, an English novel written by Charlotte Bronte was published on October 16, 1847, by Smith, Elder & Co. of London. The pen name was “Currer Bell” for Jane Eyre.

The first American edition of Jane Eyre was published by Harper & brothers, who belonged to New York, in the same year.

Jane Eyre is a fiction novel, which revolutionized prose friction of the friction novels because this novel concentrated on the protagonist’s moral and spiritual development.

The novel is written in the first-person narrative and most importantly it is written with psychological intensity, which was the very first time in the fiction novels.

1908 – England made its first Airplane Flight

The first sustained Aeroplan flight in England was made by Samuel Franklin Cody, an American on October 16, 1908, at Laffan’s Plain, Farnborough. The Aeroplan was named as British Army Aeroplan No. 1, it was also famous with the name Cody 1.

The Aeroplan had an open cockpit because there was no navigator aid, aviators used to mark this way by taking mountains, buildings as their reference points and maps were used in case of high winds.

1995 – Skye Bridge opens over Loch Alsh

Skye Bridge is a road bridge connecting the Isle of Skye to the island of Eilean Ban. Skye Bridge is a road bridge built over Loch Alsh, Scotland.

The bridge is made by using concrete and steel, Miller-Dywidag was the designer of this bridge. The bridge also carries A87, station road crossings. The construction of the bridge started in 1992 and the bridge was officially opened on October 16, 1995.

2002 – Inauguration of Bibliotheca Alexandrina

Bibliotheca Alexandrina is a modern and cultural library built on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea in the Egyptian city of Alexandria.

Bibliotheca Alexandrina library is a commemoration of the Library of Alexandria that was lost in antiquity and it was also an attempt to rekindle the brilliance of early study center of study and erudition representation.

In 1974, at the committee which was set up at Alexander University, some members proposed the plan of building Alexandria library, and the construction work began in 1995 and it was completed and inaugurated on October 16, 2002.
