Every day is beautiful, and every day is worth celebrating. If you are looking for special reasons to do so, we have got you. We bring to you the different reasons we should be celebrating each day, and on May 10 we celebrate our mothers and mother ocean. Read on!
MOTHER’S DAY
Being a mother is not easy, everybody knows that. But, no one, except a mother, is aware of how it feels to be a mother, the noblest profession, a job that is ever-changing and exasperating. They do not get days off, nor do they receive handsome salaries or generous pensions. Their reward comes from the satisfaction and happiness of their children, seeing them grow up to be healthy adults. Mother’s Day is a day to honor the women in our lives who raised us, dried our tears, and mothered us. On the second Sunday of May, give her an extra hug and try to make her day as special as you can. The Christian festival known as Mothering Sunday blended into American Mother’s Day in the 1930s and 1940s.
Anne Jarvis was successful in initiating Mother’s Day in May 1908. Before her, an American poet and author, Julia Ward Howe, made some attempts to launch a Mother’s Day but failed. President Wilson soon established the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day in 1914. This year, it is today on May 10.
On this special day, try to make her feel special. She might now want any expensive gifts, just a moment of togetherness and love with the whole family. Spend some good time with her, plan a trip or a picnic. To cook or not to cook, is her choice, not her duty. So, try to gift her with your handmade meals during the day or take her out for lunch or dinner.
NATIONAL SHRIMP DAY
Each year on May 10, National Shrimp Day recognizes America’s favorite seafood, commonly called the “fruit of the sea.” Americans eat more shrimp than any other seafood, and this is the day to celebrate this delicious seafood. Shrimp is a healthy food, low in calories, and high in levels of calcium, omega-3, protein, and iodine. It is also said to be good for the circulatory system. Some popular North American Shrimp dishes are Seafood Gumbo, Shrimp Cocktail, Shrimp DeJonghe, and Shrimp Scampi.
Celebrate this fantastic food day by making your favorite shrimp dish. Need some ideas? As Bubba Blue from the movie, Forest Gump would say, “Shrimp cocktail, shrimp scampi, fried shrimp, broiled shrimp, spicy shrimp…” Share your favorite shrimp dish using #NationalShrimpDay. On this day, take a Shrimp fishing tour.
MOTHER OCEAN DAY
Mother Ocean Day is celebrated on May 10 of every year. The day spotlights the entire magnitude of the body of water, which makes our life possible on Earth. Ever wondered how important are the oceans to our civilization? This day was introduced for the first time in 2013. The point behind celebrating this day, of course, is to take a day to celebrate the beauty and wonder of the oceans.
Every year, a different theme is selected for Mother Ocean Day. Some of the different themes chosen over the years were: Gender and Oceans; Our Oceans, Our Future; Healthy Oceans, Healthy Planet; Our Oceans: greening our future; Our Oceans, Our Responsibilities. There are many things people can do on Mother Ocean Day, what is important is to pay homage to this incredible force of nature and enjoy what it has to offer to the full. Visit the beach for a picnic or organize a beach cleaning program with friends. However, regardless of whether it is Mother Ocean Day or not, we should always respect the oceans and the beaches leading into them by never polluting them in any way, so future generations can enjoy them as much as we do today.
