November 21- Honolulu Harbour was Discovered and more

We have so many milestones in the history that has changed our perception of seeing the world. From numerous discoveries to wars won and lost, we have marked the day with such events. Every day, every year, brings proud memories of all the breakthrough and achievements accomplished by the mankind. So, let us read about some of such achievements that changed our outlook towards the world that happened on November 21.

1789- North Carolina ratified the Constitution

North Carolina, the first American territory, that the English attempted to conquer. Sir Walter Raleigh, authorized two colonies on the coast of North Carolina in the late 1580s. North and South Carolina were the same unit up until 1712. However, North Carolina became the Royal English Colony in 1729. On November 21, 1789, meeting of the General Assembly had held in the Fayetteville. In the meeting, United States Constitution was ratified. Therefore, making North Carolina the twelfth state.

1794- Honolulu Harbor discovered

Captain William Brown became the first European (from England), to enter Honolulu harbor. His ship, Butterworth, entered the harbour warping in on November 21, 1794. Therefore discovering the Honolulu harbor. He named the harbor, Fair Haven, whose Hawaiian name is Honolulu. The construction of Aloha Tower had completed on September 11, 1926. Moreover, Honolulu had already become a vacation spot for the Americans. Aloha Tower was the tallest building of Honolulu at that time. It welcomed thousands of immigrants coming to the harbor. Similarly to that of Statue of Liberty in New York.

1922 Rebecca L Felton sworn in as first female US Senator

Rebecca Ann Felton was born on June 10, 1835, in Georgia. She graduated from the Madison Female College, Georgia in 1852. She worked as an American political activist, writer and lecturer. Rebecca Marked the history, as she became the first woman to be seated in the US Senate on November 21, 1922. Although she served for just two days. Also some literary works of her consist- My Memoirs of Georgia Politics, The Romantic Story of Georgia Women and more.

1931- Horror film “Frankenstein” released

American horror flick, Frankenstein, released on November 21, 1931. Moreover, the movie is based on the stage adaptation novel written by Mary Shelly, in 1818. The monster with flat head and bulged out screws from neck, became an iconic figure in the film history. Therefore, the movie was directed by James Whale. The story revolves around a crazy doctor and his assistant. Who steal different body parts of corpses and assemble it together to create a monster and reviving him through electric shocks. Hence, naming it Frankenstein.

1989 TV cameras permitted in British House of Commons

Transmitting live proceedings from the House of Commons, through television cameras. It became possible on November 21, 1989, for the very first time. Queen’s Speech Debate became the first thing to broadcast. On the other hand, Ian Gow became the first Member of Parliament (MP), to speak live on cameras. Although radio transmitting from the House of Commons became regular from 1978. After that, eight filming cameras were installed in the room. They were allowed to record from some certain angles only. Therefore, on the channel BBC Parliament, all the proceedings are available.
