1932 The Indian Air Force established

The Indian Air Force officially came into existence today, in the year 1932. This is marked as one of the landmarks in the history of the Indian air force. The next being 1 of April when Air Marshal Subroto Mukherjee took charge as the first Indian Chief of Air Staff. He was also one of the founding members of the force. The IAF lent support to the UK in World War II.

1942 Comedy duo Abbott and Costello launch their weekly radio show

Abbott and Costello launched their own weekly comedy show, very late in their career. They were popular for their gigs on stage, radio, film, and television. The 1940s is primarily seen as their era of comedy. Primarily launched on NBC Blue Network they moved their show to ABC in 1947. They parted ways in the 1950d when their popularity faded, and their gigs became the same as before.

1955 USS Saratoga, launched, most powerful aircraft carrier

USS Saratoga was a Lexington – class aircraft carrier. It was built in the early 1920s for the US Navy. The craft was originally designed as a battlecruiser but later converted into a carrier for the Navy following the Washington Naval Treaty in 1922. She was assigned to the Pacific Fleet for her entire career. She was also one of the three aircraft carriers that served throughout the second world war.

1960 Bobby Richarson hits a World Series grand slammer

Robert Clinton Richardson is an American former professional baseball second baseman. He became the only world series most valuable player to be selected from the losing team. He won the award in the 1960 world series. In the years 1961 to 1965, he won Gold Glove Awards for consecutive 5 years. He was a consistent player in the All-Star game, for four years. After his playing career, he went on to coach college students for many future years.

1980 USSR and Syria sign peace treaty

In order to improve the situation in the Middle East, as quoted by the Soviet President, a peace treaty was signed between the USSR and Syria. The USSR president Leonid Brezhnev and Assad, the official Tass news agency, represented both unions. The details of the treaty were not disclosed maintaining confidentiality, the treaty stood for friendship and cooperation between both parties. The treaty runs for twenty years and has automatic five-year extensions. This continues unless anyone of the party dismisses the treaty.

2015 Belarusian journalist and author Svetlana Alexievich recieves Nobel prize for Literature

Svetlana is a Belarusian investigative journalist and essayist who primarily writes in Russian. The first writer to receive the Nobel prize for literature from Belarus. She achieved the award for her polyphonic writings, a monument to suffering and courage. She also has the honor of being the first journalist to achieve the prestigious award in the field of literature. But, she prefers calling her genre of work as documentary literature.
