1895 Frederick Thomas Bidlake organized the First UK individual cycling time trial.

Frederick Thomas was an English racing cyclist of the 19th century. He became a notable administrator of the British cycling ventures in the 20th century. He was a pioneer in cycling trials in the UK, bringing regulations and making cycling a mainstream venture. The individual cycling time trial was organized by him when road-racing events were banned in the United Kingdom.
1944 Suffrage granted to women in France.
French women finally won their right to vote in the year 1944. By the time France allowed active participation of women in municipal elections, it became the only country to remain so then, amongst all western countries in giving women suffrage rights. The 20th century saw many countries making suffrage universal, irrespective of gender, or class differences.
1978 Isaac Bashevis Singer wins the Nobel Prize for literature.
Isaac was a Polish – American writer. Apart from being a Nobel laureate, he was awarded two US national awards for his memoirs. He was also a leading participant in the Yiddish movement, learning and writing only in Yiddish. He identified himself as conservative and was a hardcore Jewish vegetarian. His literary works were popular and highly critical of the government and authorities.
1984 13th Space Shuttle Mission (41-G) Challenger 6 launched

The 13th space shuttle mission has many firsts and records. The first mission that aimed at studying all aspects of the Earth through the satellites, and constituted of many cameras and special devices. It had the first Canadian in space, Marc Garneau, onboard. It is also known as the flight of many firsts as it had two women together flying, and it was also the largest crew flown at the time.
1991 The first official version of Linux, released.
Linus launched the very first version of Linux, 0.02. It was developed by Linus Torvalds, succeeding in Unix. This was intended to be a hacker’s system. At this point, it was able to run GCC and bash alone. The latest version of the said browsing system is 5.8.3.
2005: Vampire novel “Twilight” by Stephenie Meyer is first published by Little Brown.
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer was considered one of the best teenage novels of all time. It touched upon topics such as alienation and rebellion in teenagers. The film adaptation was a huge success as well, released in 2008. The novel has been translated into 37 different languages yet.
