1890 Daughters of the American Revolution founded
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded by women who felt the need to express their patriotism and thought they deserve to be on the forefront too. As the men’s organizations chose to exclude the women from the scene. From then on, DAR has been the pioneer of women carrying the torch of patriotism ahead. History, education, and patriotism are the three objectives of the organization. Ever since its founding, the organization has around 95000 members.

1922 First woman FBI officer – Alaska Davidson, appointed
Alaska Davidson became the first FBI officer at the age of 54. She was hired by William J Burns when the bureau was looking for female hires to work on the cases related to the Mann Act, that aimed to combat interstate sex trafficking. The initial salary was $7 with an extra of $4. She was trained in NYC and later apppointed as a field officer in Washington, D.C.

1977 Soyuz 25 returns to Earth
Soyuz 25 was a 1977 Soviet crewed space flight. It was the first flight to the new Salyut 6 space station. But, the mission was aborted later. It was aborted as the cosmonauts were unsuccessful in engaging the docking latches, despite 5 attempts. They returned to the Earth in two days after the mission took off, as the battery power was exhausted. This led to the new rule being made that no crew would fly without an experienced astronaut on board.

2000 The 100th Space Shuttle mission (STS-92)
STS-92 was the 100th mission of the Space Shuttle program. It was an ISS assembly flight that brought the Z1 truss. The first exterior framework to be installed on the ISS, it was launched from the Kennedy Space Center. The mission was seven days of docked operations with the space station, four EVAs, and two ingress opportunities. The mission had a commander, pilot, and 5 mission specialists.

2012 Mo Yan, wins the Nobel Prize for Literature
Mo Yan was the first Chinese citizen to win a Nobel Prize in its 111-year history. He was felicitated for merging ‘folk tales, history and the contemporary’ with ‘hallucinatory realism’. Mo Yan was born to middle class parents, and he left school to work on the farms. Later he picked up writing. He writes about peasantry, people in the countryside, people rising to the top from humble backgrounds, and so on.
