June 9 – Civil War in Martinique and more

1790: Civil war breaks out in Martinique.

In the late 1790s, Martinique went into a state of civil war. The troops of Martinique Regiment, stationed in Fort Bourbon. They received their independence in February 1848.

1931: Robert H. Goddard patents a rocket-fueled aircraft design.

The rocket-fueled aircraft design was a milestone in the history of spaceflight and a beginning towards the revolution. Goddar was known as a person who has been called as the man who ushered the space age. He made two inventions that revolutionized the space age completely.

1977: Silver jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain celebrated with fireworks

The silver jubilee marked the 25th year of accession of Queen Elizabeth II to the thrones of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth realms. On June 9, the queen took a trip via boat up the River Thames from Greenwich to Lambeth. On the trip, the queen officially opened the Silver Jubilee Walkway and the South Bank Jubilee gardens. Then, she was greeted with fireworks.

1986: NASA publishes a report on the Challenger accident.

The Challenger disaster was a huge set back in the space programs undertaken by the United States. On January 28, 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger broke apart 73 seconds into its flight, killing all seven crew members aboard. The shuttle disintegrated over the Atlantic Ocean at 11:39 am EST. 2019: Over 1 million people protest in Hong Kong over proposed new extradition laws to China in one of the largest-ever protests in the city

The largest protest demonstration since the city was given back to China in 1997 was the protest that occurred on the evening of 9 June, 2019. Police estimated that the crowd was around 240k. The bill was opposed, as it gave China the arbitrary rule to grab anyone in Hong Kong for political reasons of inadvertent business offenses, contradicting the semi-autonomous legal system.
