1883: The first baseball game under electric lights is played in Fort Wayne, Indiana
In 1883, on this day, one of the first attempts at night baseball was played in Fort Wayne. The event was covered by the media and three newspapers, and all of them were very critical of the artificial light. However, the first-night All-Star Game was held at Philadelphia’s Shibe Park in 1943.
1886: Grover Cleveland becomes the first American president to wed while in office
Stephen Grover Cleveland was an American politician and lawyer. He was the 22nd and 24th president of the United States. He was the first sitting president to marry in the White House on June 2, 1886. He entered the White House as a bachelor and left a married man and father of two.
1924: The United States grants full citizenship to American Indians
According to Wikipedia, The Indian Citizenship Act of 1924, also known as the Snyder Act, was proposed by Representative Homer P. Snyder of New York and granted full U.S. citizenship to the indigenous peoples of the United States, called “Indians” in this Act of 1924.
1953: Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in Westminster Abbey, London, England
On June 2, 1953, the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II took place at Westminster Abbey, London. She acceded to the throne at the age of 25 upon the death of her father, George VI, on 6 February 1952, being proclaimed queen by her privy and executive councils shortly afterward.
