July 17 – 1st US Dental School and More

1775: 1st military hospital approved

The first U.S. military emergency hospital (clinical division) was affirmed in Massachusetts with a Director-General (boss doctor of the Hospital), four specialists, a pharmacist (drug specialist), and medical caretakers (normally spouses or widows of military staff). The compensation for the specialists and the drug specialist was $1.66 per day and medical attendants $2 every month.

1850: Harvard Observatory takes 1st photograph of a star (Vega)

On July 17, 1850, the Great Refractor at Harvard College Observatory took the main photo of a star. The star was Vega, the most splendid in the group of stars Lyra. Tragically for us, the photo is yet to be digitized. Space experts utilized the wet-plate collodion procedure to make daguerreotypes.

1861: US Congress authorizes paper money

The United States Demand Note was approved by Congress on 17 July 1861 and given on 10 August 1861. This was the principal measure to fund the war. In July 1861, Congress approved $50,000,000 in Demand Notes. They bore no intrigue, however could be reclaimed for specie “on request”.

1867: 1st US dental school, Harvard School of Dental Medicine, established

Established in 1867, the Harvard Dental School was the main dental school in the United States to be subsidiary with a college and its clinical school. Five understudies were admitted to its top of the line. The School’s first Dean, Dr. Nathan Cooley Keep, was a noticeable Boston doctor and solid advocate of dental instruction.

1897: 1st ship arrives in Seattle carrying gold from Yukon

Worked by the North American Trading and Transportation Company, in order of Captain William Kidston, she showed up at Seattle’s Schwabacher Dock at about 6:00 AM on July 17, 1897. The 68 travelers ready, 40 of the excavators, conveyed about $1,000,000 in gold. An aggregate of $177,500 “in modest quantities” had been stored with the boat’s purser.

1954: Construction of Disneyland commences

In April of 1954, only 90 days before development was to start on Disneyland, Walt brought retired Admiral Joe Fowler on board to regulate the task. To Fowler, Disneyland appeared as though a great deal of what he called ‘blue sky plans’ nevertheless the man known as ‘Admiral Can Do’, who once ran the occupied San Francisco Navy Yard, was ideal for the activity. The construction finally commenced on July 17, 1954.

1995: Forbes Magazine announces Bill Gates as the richest man in the world with a net worth of $12.9 billion dollars

Bill Gates was announced as the world’s richest private individual with a $12.9 billion fortune, dislodging a Japanese real estate magnate from the head of the yearly rundown aggregated by Forbes magazine. “Gate’s wealth rose from $8.1 billion during the previous year as Microsoft’s stock cost took off”, Forbes says in its July 17 news.
