1915- Graham Bell makes a first transcontinental telephone call
On January 25, 1915, Alexander Graham Bell and his associate Thomas Watson successfully conducted a transcontinental telephone call. This required the extension of a wire of about 3,400 miles between Boston and Cambridge. Graham Bell was in New York City and his former associate was in San Francisco. Alexander Graham Bell found AT&T Inc., company played a significant role in reaching out to the masses.
1955- Development of Atomic Clock
Atomic Clock is a clock created to keep tracking of time with extreme accuracy. The techniques of electromagnetic radiation is used to create the clock. It comprises several atoms of very high energy and movement. Scientists of Columbia University developed the first atomic clock based on the cesium-133 atom. Louis Essen and Jack Parry in 1955 created the very first atomic clock at National Physical Laboratory. The series of inventions and innovations led to the redefinition of many scientific terms.
1959- Jet Boeing 707 launched
Boeing is one of the oldest players in the aviation sector. The company launched its first jet Boeing 707 today, on January 25 in 1959. Jet engines tend to be more efficient in terms of fuel, safety, engine than the former planes. The researchers designed Boeing 707 for transcontinental purposes. Thus, it with more modifications such as adding extra fuel tanks and better turbofan engines. Moreover, it also started the domestic jet service on January 25. 1984- President Reagan approves the ‘International Space Station’ also known as Freedom
In 1984, President Reagan approved the construction of the project ‘Freedom’. This project was later on modified and several changes were made. Eventually, it formed into the International Space Station. It was America’s first permanently-manned station. Additionally, it is believed that it can be a source that could be used to colonize Mars. The expected budget of the project is a minimum $8 billion and the maximum cost $30 billion. The project includes space stations of several countries like NASDA (Japan), ESA (Europe), CSA( Canada), and NASA (USA). Hence, the ownership and use of the same were written in the international treaties signed by the nations. However, it is a successful project by the Nation and has led to other major benefits for everyone.
2004- Opportunity rover (MER-B) lands on the surface of Mars
NASA had launched a robotic rover, Opportunity also known as Mars Exploration Rover-B on July 7, 3003. On January 25, 2004, it landed on Mars in Meridiani Planum. Additionally, twin Spirit also known as MER-A also. The latter landed on Mars three weeks later after MER-B did. Both the rover lasted longer than their expected lifespan and provided useful information bot the planet Mars to the scientists. On June 10, 2018, Opportunity lost contact with NASA. However, it traveled a distance of about 45.16km.
