1863: 1st fire extinguisher patent granted to Alanson Crane.
February 10, 1863, was a historic day for America. We have so many unintentional fires today. They are a cause of the massive loss of public properties. Well, but one thing that always comes in handy is a fire extinguisher. Today, Alanson Crane patented the first fire extinguisher of the United States of America. There was an addition of tube containers which was a step up from the previous fire extinguishers.
1879: 1st electric arc light used.
Today for the first time, California Theatre used Arc lights. Furthermore, these were used in production as props. The interesting fact about these lights is their functioning. Arc lights are lamps that produce light through an electric arc. Humphry Dave invented them in the 1800s. And since then, they have been in use for years together. People also call these objects arc lamps. On February 10, the Californian Theatre used them during some of their plays.
1900: Peter Ostlund skates world record 500m.
On February 10, 1900, Peter Ostlund broke all records. He completed a skating round that was 500 meters long. This was a world record. Moreover, he also became the World All-round Champion. He was an immensely talented sportsman. Peter has held 10 different world records throughout his career. He is a man who believed in making history through his work. Today he skated the 500 meters in 44.8 seconds.
1996: IBM computer Deep Blue becomes the first computer to win a game of chess against a reigning (human) chess champion,
Gary Kasparov.
In 1985, IBM developed the computer “Deep Blue”. Additionally, this was a chess-playing computer. Now the historic part about this event is that today it beat the chess champion of the time, Gary Kasparov. He won both a chess game and a chess match. Furthermore, these matches were held under regular time controls. Moving forward, there were heavy upgradations that made it a superior computer.
2004: Kanye West releases his debut album “The College Dropout” (2005 Grammy Best Rap Album)
On February 10, 2004, Kanye West released ‘The College Dropout” album. He won the Grammy for this music album as well. Now anyone who knows rap music knows Kanye West. In addition to that, this album was his debut studio album. The creative artist that Kanye West is, he wore a teddy bear costume for the poster of this music collection. It was a hit amongst all the teenagers and young adults.
2013: Ben Affleck wins the British Academy Award for his movie Argo.
2013 was a great year for Ben Affleck. He won the British Academy Awards for his movie Argo. He not only won the best film but also best direction. Argo is a 2012 movie. It is a drama thriller. Moreover, it also includes the historical genre. Affleck adapted this movie from a book written in 1999. This movie gained great reception and applause from the audience.
