1823: Georgia passes the 1st USA state birth registration law.
On December 19, the Peach State of Georgia passed the first official birth registration law. George M. Troup, the then Governor made it compulsory for the clerks in each county of the state to maintain a book. This was done to keep a track of the number of children born in the state. Although there were innumerable records in the past, this was the first time a state-maintained records. Lastly, Georgia expected the Courts of Ordinary to keep track of all the births taking place in the county.
1843: ‘A Christmas Carol’ by Charles Dickens is published.
“It is I. Your uncle Scrooge. I have come for dinner. Will you let me in Fred?”. Does this quote ring a bell? Well, those were the times, when Charles Dickens made our life a tad bit better with his books and novels. Also, today was when he published ‘A Christmas Carol’. It has been over 175 years since Dickens wrote this book. Uncle Scrooge was the modern Grinch for children in the 19th Century. He hated Christmas and disliked everything about it. This book created history! This book has won multiple awards and accolades. A huge amount of people still commemorate this novel every time Christmas is around the corner.
1919: The American Meteorological Society is founded.
On December 19, The American Meteorological Society was established. AMS is a scientific organization in the USA. It time and again provides the world with information about the atmosphere and the oceans. Moreover, they also provide statistics about hydrologic sciences. Back in 1919, Charles Franklin Brooks played an integral role in the foundation of the AMS. Multiple researchers, educators, students, and scientists are a part of this organization. AMS provides innumerable teaching courses and sessions. Furthermore, it also publishes journals with informative chapters within them. The AMS headquarters are in Boston, Massachusetts.
2012: Park Geun- Hye elected as first female chief executive.
Park Geun- Hye was the former President of South Korea. Moreover, she was also a former South Korean politician. By becoming the first female chief executive, Hye created history. She changed the face of politics. Citizens elected Park as the assemblywoman for the Grand National Party in 1998. She also got reelected multiple times for her country and proudly represented it. On December 19, she won the elections against the Democratic United Party. Also, she won by a majority. This was a big win not only for her electing party but for women on the global front.
