August 16 – IBM introduces AI and more..

History is a reason for festivity and reflection. There have been uncountable developments, advancements, bargains, and other critical occasions previously and every one of them has something to instruct us, to move us to continue onward and not to stop regardless of whether we fall flat. Start your day with a positive idea. Accomplish something incredible today and we may distribute it in our Daily Column in the years to come. Let us read the authentic achievements of August 9:

1819: A meeting of radicals held on St. Peter’s Fields in Manchester, England, was dispersed with violence, an event that became known as the Peterloo Massacre.

The Peterloo Massacre took place at St. Peter’s Field,  Manchester, England. The Cavalry charged into a crowd of 60,000 people demanding a reform in the parliamentary representation of the government. This came after the economic slip, humongous unemployment amongst the general public and many more general problems, leading to the outbreak in August, 1819. But, the movement was a result of a second wave of such inconvenience after the end of the Napoleonic wars.

1896: Gold is discovered in the Klondike of Canada’s Yukon Territory, setting off the Klondike Gold Rush.

The Klondike Gold Rush, was a migration of hundreds of thousands of people to the Klondike region of the Yukon during the years 1896 and 1899. Gold was discovered by the local miners on 16 Aug, 1896. When the news slowly spread and reached others, it instigated a stampede. But, the gold has been immortalized as artifacts, photographs, games, literature and many other forms of art.

1960: The island of Cyprus became an independent republic.

The island of Cyprus gained its independence from the United Kingdom on August 16, 1960. The independence was declared after a long anti- British campaign by the Greek Cypriot EOKA.  After years,  Archbishop Makarios III was elected as the first president of the independent state.  Later in the next year,  Cyprus became the 99th member of the United Nations.

1965: The Watts riots end in south-central Los Angeles after six days

The Watt riots also known as the Watts rebellion or Watts Uprising,  took place at a stretch from Aug 11 to Aug 16 in 1965. It was considered one of the worst unrest in the city for many decades.  The riots resulted in 40 million property damage and around 34 deaths. It took 14,000 California Army National Guard members to suppress the disturbance.

1987: Astrological alignment of sun, moon and six planets marks what believers maintain is the dawning of a New Age.

The world’s first synchronized global peace meditation, occurred on August 16 and 17 in 1987. It was named Harmonic Convergence. The event was predicted by Tony Shearer in his book Lord of the Dawn, but the principal organizers were José Argüelles and his wife. The timing of the Harmonic Convergence was allegedly significant in the Maya Calendar.

1988:IBM introduces artificial intelligence software.

The Armond,  a New York based computer giant introduced several packages designed to help computer users with different levels of computer training. IBM became the first machine giant to do so, and they said that by answering a series of questions everyone is capable of doing so.
