Women from all over the world have had their share of struggles. Be, it in the fields of education, or personal traumas, every sector has tried to shun women down. Although, education remains an integral contributor to everybody’s success story. But, women have had their fair share of hindrances to overcome to get access to this education.
Though women’s education had started to gain major attention in the 1800s, it achieved major momentum during World War II. Let us have a quick view of the timeline of women’s education and understand the breakthroughs in this process.
Struggle to get Education
With patriarchy weighing a lot heavier than now, women’s education had to go through the lens of judgment and displeasure. Many people believed that education would take women away from their familial responsibilities. They believed that women were only meant to be stuck at home and education would make them a “bad” daughter, wife, sister, and mother.
To them, education was a widespread epidemic and they had to save their women from it. However, with women incessantly protesting to acquire basic education with the minimum of Bachelor’s degree, women’s colleges were founded in the 1800s. These institutions got a considerable amount of inflow and shout-out in the 1900s. The Second World War had a crucial role in this.
World War II
With men going out on war, women had to take up all the work responsibilities meant apparently for men. The kicking-in of the war saw a decline in the number of male enrollments in colleges and institutions. This provided an opportunity for to women go get themselves in both co-ed colleges and single sec colleges. As of now, there was nobody to put stop them from pursuing their dreams.
The World War timeline also saw an increase in the number of women in business organizations. This led to the establishment of an unending cause-benefit chain. With women requiring to take a front seat in earning a livelihood for their families, education became the thing of utmost importance. And, with women getting an education, they got to take the lead in business groups and organizations.
Vocational Courses
Throughout the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, psychology and other vocational courses became quite popular. During the end year of World War II, the Dean of Women association was formed that established itself as a higher education administration. Therefore, the Dean of Women continually worked to make these vocational courses accessible to other women so that nothing remains unattainable for them.
However, in the late 1940s, there was an increasing threat to the position of Dean of Women. With more and more male members getting back to educational institutions, women had to face demotion. They were now subordinates of their male counterparts.
This saw a reduction by 21% in women participation and enrollment in college, once again giving rise to female inferiority and less involvement.
1964 Civil Rights Act
The 1964 Civil Rights Act worked as a major benefactor in bringing in a little bit of quality. It called for equality in the treatment of all minority groups and the end of sexual discrimination. This allowed for equality in workplaces which included the education sector as well.
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 protected employees and students in educational institutions. The governmental legislation and the strong movement to gain equality lead higher education institutions to become organizations based on function and not gender.
All of this combined accounted for bringing in women’s participation back to educational institutions and other momentum associations.
Current Times
The above-mentioned talks revolved around the entire 1900s. With the world stepping into the twenty-first century, something has changed for sure. People have somewhere or the other started realizing that women’s education is as important as any man’s education. A woman is not just born to serve a man in his success and failure, she is born to lead everything on her own.
With educational opportunities increasing for women day by day, and them getting an equal chance to shine everywhere, women’s participation has comparatively increased. Women have put a foot in every job sector and have exceptionally succeeded in all of them. The reason behind all of this is none other than, good and proper education.

Conclusion
Although, it seems that an increase in involvement, participation, and success guarantees complete equality, it far from reality. There are still many women residing in this world who do not even know the basic definition of education, let alone schools and colleges. As a world, we still have a long way to go for educating the entire woman community.
There should not be any doubt about the fact that it is only education that can light up one’s life and bring one out of the jaws of darkness. For a woman to get out of a life of misery and dreadfulness, education is chiefly paramount.
With women reaching further heights day by day, it is not only women needing education but the educational sector needing more women.
