Social media today, has confused the people between the two. It reflects that self-love means buying yourself expensive outfits, skincare or beauty care products, taking yourself on dates, etc. Well, that can be a form of self-love but, that is not self-love.
It is well said. “Loving yourself isn’t vanity, it’s sanity.”
Self-love. The word is itself self-explanatory. Self-love explains the ability to accept, respect, and embrace ourselves. It explains how you treat yourself. On the other hand, self-worth refers to the understanding and awareness of ourselves not just physically, but also emotionally and mentally.
Importance of understanding and practicing Self-love and Self-worth
“What you assume to be real, can just be some reel.”
Social media presents us with a world that is perfect in its ways but when we dig deep, we encounter the fact that the problems of our day-to-day fast-pacing lives have hollowed us from the inside. Our mental, financial, physical, and emotional problems leave us on the verge of a psychotic breakdown.
Also, in this evolving world, you come across all kinds of people. Thus, it becomes important to know ourselves. Value ourselves. Improve ourselves and surround ourselves with people having a healthy mindset. We get so busy pleasing the people around us that we forget that we are the ones who deserve our love the most.
Understand this. If you have a friend who is upset or who is not feeling okay because of anything. Would you ever tell him/her that he/she is undeserving or unworthy? Would you ever blame them for feeling that way? No. You won’t. Instead. You will tell them that they are the best. You will be kind to them. Generous to them. So, when you are suffering from the same thing, how could you blame yourself or let yourself feel guilty. You deserve the same love that you give to others.
How to love yourself?
As discussed before, materialism can be a form of self-love but it is not self-love. Self-love is accepting yourself for the person you are and letting go of anything or anyone that tells you otherwise. It is in understanding that it’s okay to be flawed and everyone has their imperfections which they deal with, in their way.
You need to love yourself not to show the world that you love yourself but because you believe in yourself. A self-love is a form of peace. It is a practice that we have to learn and teach ourselves. You need to understand that how someone treats you in the perception of themselves and your reaction to it, is your awareness about yourself.
Self-love lies in respecting yourself and your boundaries. You should never allow someone to interfere with your beliefs and self-respect. No relationship. No task is worth your peace of mind. Let go of anyone who makes you believe that you aren’t worthy or that you are enough. Most importantly, do not let anyone tell you that you are hard to love. No one gets to decide the way you should be or the way you should feel.
Self-love is all about isolating yourself from the world and understanding your needs and boundaries.

What is the difference between self-love and self-worth?
There’s a very thin line that distinguishes self-love from self-worth. Self-love can be defined as the capability to love yourself through the highs and the lows. But self-worth. It’s about knowing what you truly deserve and not settling for anything less. Self-worth lies in understanding that you have worked hard to achieve something and you won’t let anyone take it away from you.
“Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself for you are beautiful.”
Conclusion
We need to understand that there will always be people around you who will try to put you down but you will always shine through. You are not defined by any reaction to any situation or by the mistakes you made or by the prizes you won. You are defined by the kind of person you are when no one’s watching. Know that you are defined by how compassionate, kind and honest you are with yourself because at the end of the day if you can’t even love yourself then how will you ever be able to love someone else. So, try being kind and generous, and respectful with yourself and appreciate yourself and discover the true secret of being happy.
