INTERNATIONAL DAY OF CHARITY
The international day of charity was declared by the United Nations organization in 2012. It was marked as a tribute to the death of Mother Teresa. It is declared as an international holiday by the United Nations. This day makes us remind that simple acts of charity can alleviate the worst effects of humanitarian crises, and create more inclusive and resilient societies.
HISTORY OF THE DAY
Mother Teresa was born on August 26, 1910, and she committed herself to religious life at the age of 12. She had been fascinated by missionaries and other humanitarian acts. Her charity and the works began in 1948 around and there she adopted Indian Citizenship.
She died in 1997 after the charitable service of 45 years. And, now today, she is remembered as the woman of great faith and unmatched charitable donation.
In 1913, a revenue act was passed by Congress in 1913, which exempted charities to pay taxes.
And then in 1914, the world’s first community foundation was formed named Cleveland Foundation, which was established in Cleveland, Ohio.
HOW ONE CAN CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF CHARITY
1. Donate funds to charity- one can celebrate this auspicious occasion by donating finds and other small essential items to poor and needy people and be blessed by them. You can also donate funds to charitable organizations.
2. Attend a charity event – on this day there are many charity events which you can attend. If there is no such thing in your area you can reach out to any charitable organization and can organize an event of your own.
This day spreads a lot of awareness among the people. People also love this day as it makes us remind of the special memories of the past and the most incredible woman, MOTHER TERESA.
