Each new day should be received with gratitude. Gratitude for the amazing new beginning it has provided and helped us see the bright light in the morning. This gratitude should be celebrated in all ways you can. So, we through this Today column, bring to you the amazing reasons you can use to enjoy your day.
JUNE TEENTH
June 19 marks the end of slavery in the U.S. and commemorates African American freedom while emphasizing education and achievement. Texas slaves finally gained their freedom. Since the declaration of the Emancipation Proclamation had been made in the middle of the war, it was not until the final victory of the Union government in mid-1865 that many slaves in former Confederate states were granted their final freedom. Now, the date of the end of slavery is celebrated across the US as Juneteenth.
Texas declared a state holiday on June 19 in 1980. To observe this day, fly the Juneteenth flag or attend a Juneteenth celebration. You can also watch a movie about slavery. On this day, remember those courageous Americans who fought for equality like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, Mildred Loving, Fredrick Douglass, Dred Scott, and many more.
INTERNATIONAL BOX DAY
This day is celebrated to enjoy the incredible pairing of cats and cardboard boxes. The first-ever commercial paper box was made in 1817 by an English firm M. Treverton. A cardboard box was developed in Germany in the same year. A Brooklyn printer and paper-bag maker manufactured flat, pre-cut pieces that could be folded into boxes in 1890. In 2005, a cardboard box is included in the National Toy Hall of Fame.
To celebrate this day, bring some boxes and create a play area for your cat. Put them side by side and soon you’ll find your cat playing with them. Invite kitty friends and let them enjoy with boxes. This is a stress-bursting activity for both, you and your cat.
NATIONAL MARTINI DAY
This day is a special occasion to enjoy your favorite version of the classical martini mocktail. This drink was originally called “The Martinez”. This name was derived from its place of origin, the town of Martinez. It has expanded to many exciting flavors, but initially, it was made with gin, wine, and an olive.
Today, you can try making a martini at home or go out at a bar for a martini. Buy a martini related gift for yourself or your friends. Martinis are easy to make and they highlight the favor of gin.
How to make the perfect Martini:
- Pour 55 ml of gin and 15 ml of dry vermouth into a mixing glass with some ice cubes.
- Stir well
- Strain into a chilled Martini cocktail glass
- Squeeze the oil from lemon peel onto the drink, or garnish with an olive or two.
One of the reasons why people love Martini is that James Bond drinks it. James Bond is probably one of the coolest men to have ever walked the planet, so if a Martini is good enough for him, it is good enough for us.
