History
The founder of earth day is Gaylord Nelson. He was a former U.S. senator. The idea of earth day was born in his mind after witnessing the oil spill in Santa Barbara, California in 1969. An anti-war student movement helped and inspired him to shift the energy from that to pollution on earth. After a lot of effort and hard work, he finally got a chance to have a message on national television in 1970. As a result, there were more than 20 million Americans on the roads for rallies to support the cause. In 1990, it became a global celebration.
