Pageants Breaking the Stereotypes

A stereotypical history

There are several platforms that you can use to evoke a sustainable and innovative difference in our communities and one of those platforms is pageants. Colonization spanned for about 200 years or so between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. However, colonization is significant in this context because the very first pageant that took place was in 1839 where a lady was crowned as the Queen of Beauty. Thereafter, the pageants spread across the world and outside of Britain. However, the very first pageant to start officially was Miss America in 1921, which is the longest standing pageant till today.

After colonization, there occurred an influence that money, power, and status spread to the rest of the world. And just after colonization prevailed at its peak, capitalism started in late 1880. From then until now, we can see the exponential growth of capitalism. So how does it tie with pageants? The leaders and capital players used the winner of the pageant or title holders to be their brand ambassadors to elevate their powers, money, and status. Hence, pageants are the significance of an elevated community.

Stereotypes to break

The beauty pageants exist as a showpiece to glimpse at right from the history. However, we can see exceptionally less effective changes to glare them more than just a showpiece. Should they not be praised for their confidence to walk in front of proficient leaders? Should we not consider their generosity and intelligence to reply to the ongoing topics so flawlessly? Many pageants choose their career as a social server after their program. Many choose to aspire to enter the fashion world. However, there always remains a part of the community that stereotypes this variety of life, and these stereotypes can arrive at them in various ways:

Physical aspect

Due to the physical aspect of any pageant event, there always rises an assortment of critics to imply their emphasis on. However, several girls walk on this as a scholarship program yet are judged only by the way they look. This aspect stands ethical for the ones who witness those events only to glance at the bodies of the participants and later comment on it. Many researchers and beauty pageants- Anna Gleave and Jones agreed on being criticized physically.

The enthusiasm of the participants

The world is how you discover the world. The pageants participate with all their strength and effort with vitality and enthusiasm by reckoning about what they are willing to attain. Some of the participants want to explore and prove something to the world and even to themself. While some participants want to express how beautiful or handsome they are. Therefore, some of the stereotypes remain inside the intellect of the participants that later spread to the world.

Intellect

Subsequently, the enthusiasm of the participants comes under another category of stereotypes but intellectual skill becomes necessary in this field. Especially when you seek Miss America. This program depends upon the intelligence of the participants and as a result, the winners can receive a decent scholarship to continue their education. While most of the audience might believe it as a beauty event only. Some of the participants even enter with non-productive answers. This disappoints the judges as the pageants are not only meant to be beautiful in the resemblance but to be beautiful by the way they are.

These stereotypes exist from the old days. Still, our pageants stand stiff to combat those and achieve a higher level than those comments. Their success is plentiful enough to make us believe their strength and intelligence to cope with stereotypes.

Pageant as a different notion

Dr. Habib Noorbhai won the title of Mr. South Africa 2017 was the shortest among the others who participated in the program. However, what motivated the judges was his intellect to speak and this seemed extraordinary from the others. He was even titled with breaking the stereotypes for a magazine. Hence, we receive the notion that a pageant is something that you desire to perform to demonstrate yourself and not coated-self. This is a great opportunity for aspiring participants to achieve their scholarships and goals or to enter into the glamour world. There exist many articles on World Model Hunt to modify the stereotypical minds and even they are providing many opportunities for the aspiring models.
