With the same schedule day after day, it can become monotonous more often than you think. You can get bored when you are not doing something you are initially supposed to do. As a kid, you might have liked art or music but now you do not have time for it anymore. You are not alone. This is due to the society that you are surrounded by. There will always be things that go out of their way to make you unhappy. That is how toxic the world around you is ‘Killing time’ is a phrase that is given to things that people actually enjoy. There are so many to make you feel bad about amusing yourself and having fun. To help you find what you could do this weekend to escape from the everyday rigid schedule, here is a list of things you can do.
Listen to podcasts or watch TED talks
If you enjoy learning and listening to people who have something insightful to add to your life, listen to podcasts. There is no other time to explore more than your precious weekend. Just plug in your headphones and enjoy knowing more about politics, the universe, and global problems. This is a way of learning too. If you are more into video start with TED talks. This will get you hooked. You get to listen to people from various fields share their experiences. One after the other, these interesting videos will give you a newer perspective of the world and how you think of it.
De-clutter your digital drawers
You may think of it as an everyday thing, but you miss out on it. With hundreds of emails, messages, and unknown numbers, your phone or laptop becomes a junk box. You have starred so much that you do not even find the important mails! Sort it out. The weekend is your chance. Unsubscribe from emails that you are not interested in, block and report junk calls, and delete people and contacts you do not know or care about. Take a break from your social presence. This reduces your screen time since you do not have to look at the screen every time to acknowledge a useless notification. Not only this but it also cleanses and calms your mind. When you are organized, things become better and easier automatically.
Go for a long stroll
How often do you get to think about what you want to do tomorrow? I am guessing, rarely. It is not your fault, you are so preoccupied with the overwhelming work and college assignments that you barely get to choose what to eat at night. Go for a walk. Preferably alone or with anyone you like. Howsoever you choose to go, make sure you are at peace. Organize your thoughts. You need fresh air to think clear. Look at things that make you happy. Acknowledge the things you would normally not notice, like the trees and pet animals. When you find yourself in the presence of other beings such as you, you realize how your problems are not shaking the world. Things go on and on and so do you. When you come back home, you will find yourself smiling more.
Go for an outing
If you have been sitting to finally go to the store and buy that shirt or headphones in person, do it on the coming weekend. Dine out at your favorite place with your friends. Try out a bowling game or go skating. Make your weekend happening and interesting. Instead of sitting at home sullen over how you had extra work, go out and remind yourself how you are so much more than what stress makes of you. Surround yourself with people that make you happy and enjoy occasionally.
Go to charity events or a social parade
This is one of the best things you can do especially in today’s world. Look up online if there is anything around you that needs your help. Donate to a charity, visit an orphanage or an old age home, get food for street animals around you if you can. Do something that helps others. Empathy goes a long way. In a world where people want you to be extremely selfish, make room for others to experience happiness. Happiness that you can offer.
CONCLUSION
The point of everything that you do should be to make you happy. You do not want to glum and waste your time regretting what you could have done. Use your weekends to jump on all of it. Take care of yourself. Avoid taking calls and hanging out if you do not feel like it. Do not keep sitting at home if you so badly want to go out. Cook and dance to the music you want to. Start learning a new language if you like! Keep surprising yourself. Do things that you think would elevate you. Keep adding more to yourself by never stop learning and growing. This is your journey and it is your responsibility to make the best of it.
