Books of fiction allow us to escape reality. And enter a world which is not of our making, but someone else’s. Not to say that you do not have a sense of imagination. It is just that a lot of us, after a day of hard work, would like to go back home and watch something nice or read a book. That helps our minds to relax. And eventually, slip into a world of creativity and imagination where adventure is endless. Such is the series of ‘Harry Potter’ written by J.K Rowling.

“We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.” – Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
When you are asked about what genre do you think Harry Potter is, you may reply by saying that it is simply a fictional book. Or others may say it is just adventurous. Or even plain fantasy. It is in fact all the above and more. The ‘Harry Potter’ series is a mixture of drama, fantasy fiction, mystery, thriller, adventure, and bildungsroman.
The story is a compilation of 7 books that are adapted into 8 movies. While reading, you do not just feel as if you are reading a young boy’s story. You feel as if you are watching the poor boy go through all hardships from a tender age and are unable to do anything about it. Such is the writing of the author J.K Rowling.
Filled with magic, witches, and wizards. Weird magic potions and spellbook. A magical wizarding sport named Quidditch, where students compete on flying brooms. Not to mention uncommon creatures and plants. Car sized spiders and castle sized dragons. Unlike regular school exams, these wizards take their exams with spelled parchments wherein the students cannot copy off each other. Beware, if you are caught cheating, you will be expelled from Hogwarts! Which is worse than dying in the wizarding world. Harry Potter is a roller coaster ride for all those who still are children from the inside, yet matured on the outside. The adapted movies of the series are almost eighty percent similar to the books.

Impact This Fictional Book Created
“But you know, happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
We know about real life-based books, autobiographies, and other concept-based books having a huge impact on adults. And how these books inspired them to go on and become significant adults. But have you ever heard of a mere fictional book not only inspiring children but adults and oldies alike? That is the power this enchanting series holds.
There is a lot of skepticism when it comes to escaping reality. As many say that escaping will not solve their real-world problems. But if the book, game, or movie for that matter is designed in such a way that it stimulates the reader or watcher to have a positive satisfied feeling and thus releasing dopamine in our brain. Which is put to good use. That is the “Harry Potter Effect”.
