1963: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is arrested in Florida for trying to integrate restaurants.
Martin Luther King was the most famous inmate of the St. Johns County Jail till date. He was arrested and had to spend one night in jail as he was charged with trespassing. He and others were charged for trying to eat in a Monsoon Restaurant. King was part of many protesters and activists who were jailed between the years 1963 and 1964.
1967: Israel and Syria accept a U. N. cease-fire.
After battling Syria, Jordan, and Egypt in the six-day war, Israel captured the entire length of the Golan Heights. The resulting ceasefire was supervised by a series of positions and observation posts by the UN Truce Supervision Organisation. This became the new effective border. The cease-fire line was also dubbed as the ‘Purple Line’.
1987: Margaret Thatcher is 1st British Prime Minister in 160 years to win a third consecutive term
Margaret Thatcher Thursday became the first Prime Minister to win consecutively for the third time since the early 1800s. The win was attributed to her amazing personality and clear policies. Her ‘Conservative Party’ won 347 seats out of 587 seats. The party guaranteed it’s win when they surpassed the mark of 326 seats.
1993: “Jurassic Park”, directed by Steven Spielberg, starring Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum open, sets box office weekend record of $502 million
Jurassic Park later developed into Jurassic World. It is a science fiction media franchise, that has a plot revolving around setting a theme park with cloned dinosaurs. It is a movie developed from the novel of the same name written by Michael Crichton. The film was selected in 2018 to be preserved in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.
2017: French Open Men’s Tennis: Spaniard Rafael Nadal becomes the first man to win French title 10 times
In the 2017 French Open, Rafael Nadal won his 10th French title, setting the record of being the first man to achieve the feat. Also, Rafael achieved his 15th Grand Slam singles title. He became the third man to win Grand Slam titles in his teenage, in his twenties, and in his thirties as well.
