Henry Schoolcraft
1832: Source of Mississippi River discovered in Minnesota by American geographer Henry Schoolcraft
In 1832, Schoolcraft led an expedition to Lake Itasca, the source of the headwaters of the Mississippi River. The Mississippi River runs south from northern Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico and is considered the chief river in North America’s largest drainage system.
1930: 1st-ever football World Cup competition begins in Uruguay
The 1930 FIFA World Cup was the debut FIFA World Cup, the big showdown for men’s national affiliation football crews. It occurred in Uruguay from 13 to 30 July 1930. FIFA, football’s global administering body, chose Uruguay as the host country, as the nation would commend the century of its first constitution and the Uruguay national football crew had effectively held their football title at the 1928 Summer Olympics. All matches were played in the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo, the greater part at the Estadio Centenario, which worked for the competition.
1966: A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada founds the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Hare Krishna movement) in New York City
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), referred to casually as the Hare Krishna development or Hare Krishnas, is a Gaudiya Vaishnava Hindu strict association. It was founded on 13th July, 56 years ago. ISKCON was established in 1966 in New York City by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Its center convictions depend on the Hindu sacred writings, especially the Bhagavad Gita and the Bhagavata Purana, and the Gaudiya Vaishnava convention, which has had disciples in India since the late fifteenth century and American and European aficionados since the mid-1900s.
1985: “Live Aid” concerts held at both Wembley Stadium (London) and John F. Kennedy Stadium (Philadelphia) raises over $125 million for African famine relief
On July 13, 1985, at Wembley Stadium in London, Prince Charles and Princess Diana formally open Live Aid, an overall stage performance sorted out to fund-raise for the help of starvation stricken Africans. Proceeded at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia and in different fields the world over, the 16-hour “superconcert” was internationally connected by satellite to in excess of a billion watchers in 110 countries.
