“Love your body!’’, they say, everywhere we turn, every corner, every side, every path, every media platform and, every poster. Huge banners of accepting your body despite flaws. Big stories of fat being the new beautiful. A considerable amount of appreciation for positive body images. But what to do on the days when you just do not feel like loving it at all? Not because your body lacks some special attributes that it previously owned, but because you just do not want to.
The more structured term that would fit best into scenarios like these, would be the originated term, BODY NEUTRALITY. Ever since this term has become popular among groups, people have tried to put more emphasis on the intricacies and understanding of this terminology. The term first emerged in blogs and articles around 2015. But gained more popularity when Anne Poirier of Colby-Sawyer College started leading programs on it at the Vermont wellness retreat Green Mountain at Fox Run in 2016.
What does Body Neutrality teach us?
The thematic representation of body neutrality will be to accept one’s body in general. Regardless of having any love or hatred for it. It weighs more on the fact of acceptance. It asks one to believe in their body for the capacities it holds, rather than the appearance it shows. Body neutrality widens the idea of acknowledging the activities that your body does for you. For instance, it helps you to climb a mountain rock or exercise your way throughout the day. It does not necessarily have anything to do with how it looks.
The term highly hubs around the point where the physical look of a person is put into the backseat. It puts special emphasis on their inner qualities and their un-twisted trust lying on their bodies. The Body Neutrality movement puts forth the point of valuing your body no matter what. Even when you may not necessarily feel good about how it appears. They say, one shouldn’t consider one bit about how one’s body appears. And instead, be happy for it always holding one’s back.
Difference Between the Two Movements
There is no one specific reason for which this movement is put on an upper pedestal as compared to the Body Positivity movement. The mere fact that the Body neutrality movement walks one hand away from outer notions of a beautiful body, impresses people the most.
In a society of millions of people, where people are conditioned to worship physical imputes over anything else. The movement that makes the body’s dimensions in their respective field as their focal point, will any day get more clapping hands. With people’s age-old obsession with right body images, it will not be correct to blame people for having a distorted image about their bodies in their heads. Therefore, if one gets more in peace with their bodies and holds faith in the innumerable things their body can do for them, one will not only be happy for a day or two but a whole lifetime.

Achievement over Appearance
The Body Neutrality movement works with the tagline of, ‘Achievement over Appearance’. With heaps of common people coming out and realizing that feeling beautiful has nothing to do with how you look from the outside but what you have in store from within. With this notion of being beautiful beyond physical associations, the idea of Body Neutrality is coming on board like never before. It will be wrong to say that the paradigm of both Body Positivity and Body Neutrality are poles apart because they are not. Both of these movements run along the same lines of being confident about yourself no matter what, the only difference being, one promotes ‘self-love’ and the other, ‘self-acceptance’.
Body Neutrality emerged further as a movement. According to many people, loving their body no matter what was turning out to be a very superficial concept. This, in one way or the other, looked away on inherent qualities of a person, by only advancing outer beauty standards. The notion that needs to be advanced further in upcoming times is, self-acceptance is a man’s, first love.
Conclusion
One should start seeing their body as an element of their own, which they should cherish for having their back. Be it good or bad, one will realize the true essence of this movement. This actively advocates optimism for all body images. It makes people believe that you do not require love to feel good. Sometimes satisfaction with oneself is all that is utmost needed.
Love may come and love may go. But that will never mean the stoppage of appreciation for the doings of one’s body. With an increased amount of attention given to this movement, people are aiming towards having a life full of neutrality instead of peripheral positivity.
