All You Need to Know About Sexually Transmitted Diseases

There are no limitations of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). No matter you are single, married, or moreover returning to dating, STDs are caused due to the infections which transfer during sexual contact. However, these infections do not show any symptoms and become a disease when they show some symptoms in an individual. This is the reason why STDs are also known as sexually transmitted infections (STIs). According to some surveys, post-menopause women are at higher risk as vaginal tissue is thinner and is more likely to tear in between intercourse. Which will then easily allow the spread of infection in the body. Therefore, it is important for everyone to practice “safe sex”, even if there is not an issue of pregnancy.

While there is not any kind of thing like 100 percent safe sex as any sexual activity can spread the infection and can cause sexually transmitted diseases. however, safe sex can lower the chances of the spread of infection from the infected partner to the non-infected one. Using a male condom can protect the individual from an infection that exists on the skin of the penis. However, on the other hand, it can not protect you from infection of herpes and HPV that presents on genital skin. therefore, intercourse is not important for their transmission.

Another solution for this is to use Female Condom, which is a non-latex, thin sheath that lines the vagina. Moreover, it not only covers the vagina but also covers the vulva, the genital skin of the vagina. Another quality of a female condom is that it does not have any size and all, only one size fits all. As STDs can be easily transmitted from one person to another, female condoms can give much protection.

STDs and pregnancy

It is the possibility that a pregnant woman can transmit STDs to the fetus during the pregnancy period. In newborn babies, STDs can be complicated and also can be life-threatening. Therefore, to prevent the baby from the infection, the doctor encourages them to do the test and the potential treatment. If you test positive for STD while pregnant, then your doctor will give you some treatment. Also, it is the probability that the doctor might encourage you for cesarean delivery, which will lower the risk of infection.

Treatment of sexually transmitted diseases

The treatment recommendation for STDs varies with the type of infections. So, it is important to take proper medications and cure the infection.

Bacterial STD

Usually, bacterial infections can be treated with simple medications. So, for the cure, you have to take the prescribed antibiotics. Continue with your medications even if you feel better. After the medication, do remember to go for the check-up again.

Viral STD

Viral STD can not be cured with the help of antibiotics, while most of them have no cure. However, some can get a cure on their own. In most cases, there are chances of treatment and to reduce the risk of transmission. For example, there are available medications that can reduce the frequency and the risk of herpes outbreaks. Similarly, HIV also has a treatment solution to stop the progression. Moreover, antiviral drugs are effective medication in treating HIV.

Totally avoiding sexual contact is the only solution to STDs. However, while having vaginal or oral sex, it can be made safer in some ways. If used properly, condoms can help in effective protection against many STDs. Using dental dams can also protect from infection during oral sex. However, condoms only protect the infection through fluid, but can not protect infection through the skin to the skin. Getting regular STD screening is the better option for one who is sexually active. It is important to know about your partner’s sexual history. As there are not any symptoms of STD, then testing is the only option for confirmation. You can also be vaccinated for HPV and Hepatitis B if you are diagnoses with one.

Conclusion

Therefore, if any individual is positive for the STD test, then it is important to take proper treatment. Some of the STDs are totally curable, while some can lead to fatal consequences. So, early and effective treatment can reduce symptoms of disease, also lower the risks of transmission. Along with the treatment and medications, doctors suggest that a person should develop a healthy sexual habit to protect everyone. For example, they suggest not make any kind of contact until they got free from infection. Following the doctor’s plan can improve your situation. For more articles, click here.
