A wide variety of clothes and broad fashion choices are so commonly seen nowadays whatever you want to wear or make a combo with become a new fashion but when we take a look back, we see there numerous variety of choices were not present before, and it evolved over time.

Since the days of petticoats and corsets to Diar’s heyday in the 50’s to even the torn-out cloths in the 20th century, the dress evolved dramatically. Let us have a look at how the clothes, transformed over ages.

51 BC – In Ancient Egypt, women used to wear linen materials. Cleopatra – the queen, was known to wear clothes that were adorned with gold as well as semi-precious stones.

30BC – The dresses back then were designed for comfort and functionality. The clothes designed were of silk and linen fabric. These truly served for the modern inspiration of a decent look.

1450 – Designing dresses in pieces and layers became famous in the early medieval times as it denoted wealth.

1530– The mid medieval time was famous for its heavy fabrics which included velvet which was worn with heavy ornaments and necklaces and jewels. The clothing style involved features like long, draped sleeves.

1650- During this period, high waisted silhouettes were replaced by a design that emphasized the waist.

1730- The French revolution was marked by a big dress, with elaborate designs and high hairs. This was at this time that fashion was its peak.

1760- Dresses in American colonies were simpler than that of the dresses of Europe, with women wearing a combination of petticoats and an open front dress which was witnessed like a skirt and bodice sewn together in the same patterns.

1790- By the end of the 18th century, the clothing of women became less structured. Now the fashion and a draped high neckline allowed for more fluid movement.

1810- For all the occasions that came across, empire dresses were designed and added ruffles to it to make it look more formal.

1815- The early 19th century was also marked by empire dresses, the add-on here was the muslin fabric that came into use for less formal dresses.

1840- The mid 19th century is marked by the ruffles, long skirts, and embroidery or flowers on dresses

1860 – The dressing became simpler as we moved on with the United States at war. the fabrics and designs were simplified, making the whole dress as a skirt of just one fabric.

1880- Royal fashion remained formal. Off-the-shoulder dresses became common along with a long broad bodice back. As well as when we talk about the 1890s, black and white color was the choice, designed with high necks and long sleeves.

1900- The Victorian silhouettes with lots of layers and coverage were in fashion, making a stronger emphasis on the slim waist for which corsets were encouraged.

1915- This period was marked by welcoming lighter fabrics like chiffon, making silhouettes more streamlined than ever before.

1930- With America in the Great Depression, people were not willing to spend more money on clothing.and for the ones who are financially sound a new host of patterns and textures were introduced.

1945- By the mid-40s, the war was over and fashion took over its play. silhouettes remaining similar in the decade, ruche fabric, bedding, and accessories were being implemented into designs.

1970- In the ’70s the miniskirt evolved into the jumper dress worn over a button-down blouse.

1988- In 1988, Oscars in a tizzy of fringe, beads, and rhinestone-encrusted sheer panels. The Naked Dress is known to be the iconic fashion symbol of the era.

2000- In the 2000s, the main focus was about the fabrics and patterns. Cotton, jersey, and rayon had a big movement in the millennium.

2010- The 2010s will always be known as the decade in which there were more fashion-forward ways to wear the bandage dress.

2015- Taylor Swift shows how the biggest trend of the season- the cutoffs at the heart radio music awards.

2019- In 2019, the lines between haute couture and everyday fashion became blurred as statement pieces took over red carpets.

Let us take a tour on the fashion trends of the past decade, present, and future closely:

When we talk about the 1950’s we see that summer outfits were very popular, people used to wear them throughout the year. As we move forward to the 1960s, we find, women often layered loose-fitting coats over matching dresses and completed their ensembles with coordinating hats, gloves, and short heels. The early 1960s were marked with pillbox hats and bow collar dresses that drew the attention away. The mid-’60s were known for their choice of bold colors in sheer fabrics. Then the “Mod Movement” took over the glances. Men who participated in the movement often dressed sharply, donning tailored suits and sophisticated ensembles inspired by British R&B and rock bands. Later, the miniskirts took over the rule and the people were influenced by wearing styles in the film-“Bonnie and Clyde”. The early 1970s was known for Hippie-inspired pants and mod-style shirts following halter necklines trending again. Later, Disco styles started to emerge from the fashion industry followed by suits and then jumpsuits taking over the trend. The dressing style changed to making it comfortable for dancing and subsequently People wearing wore ripped jeans and leather.

Turning the drive towards the 1980s, bold bright colors became famous followed by the combination of black and white. The early ’80s was also known for skirts to mixing athletic wear to everyday attires. At the start of the ’90s, jackets became a staple part of many outfits and in mid, plaid took the part along with colorful designs everywhere. Logo-mania originated in the late ’90s. Starting off the next decade was taken over by types of denim, low rise jeans, and crop tops. Succeeding, Peplum tops became fashionable and stars favoring bold cutouts. In the mid-’20s People couldn’t get enough of monochromatic outfits, wearing apparel in a single color, or different shades of the same hue.

The future of the fashion world cannot be described exactly. When what takes over, and the stars draw their attention towards, becomes the trend. But one thing that can be pointed out is, old is repeating. Slowly and gradually we are for sure moving towards what people wore in history.
