
July 4 was the day when the dawn of independence hit the walls of America. It celebrates the political independence of Great Britain’s 13 Northern colonies. These colonies went ahead and formed the United States of America.
The Continental Congress voted in favor of independence on July 2. Two days later, delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence and thus the creation of Independence Day for America. The day also sees fireworks, concerts, gatherings, and other family outings as an ode to the liberation celebration. Therefore, every American decides to bring in the weekend in the best way possible.

1.Mackinac Island
First, on the list, Mackinac Island, located in Michigan, can be an absolute tourist favorite for Independence Day weekend! The Mackinac Island holds a historical significance in the liberation of America. Therefore, this excites people further to choose it as a weekend destination.
The blue waters by boat and the land on the shores, taking the Star Line will give you a breath-taking landscape view. Other things here include Independence Day stone-skipping contests and the Fort sightseeing. The Fort here is one of the two original revolutionary Forts left in America.
The Island’s firework commences on the night of the 4th. Henceforth, one can sit and enjoy the view of it in its entirety. A historical and liberating getaway together, Mackinac Island can be a good choice for the weekend escape!
2. Statue of Liberty, New York
With July 4th approaching near, the Statue of Liberty is an ideal weekend getaway location for many!
Not only Saint Liberty on Liberty Island, but adjacent Ellis island is also worth giving a day. Since both the Islands get served by the same ferry, people generally visit the two together.
On top of this, Macy’s fireworks show brings in a lot more fun and frolic and gives a complacent ending to a whole day’s outing. In this particular year, the Statue of Liberty’s “little sister” Little Lady Liberty has come in from France to mark the day of independence. A replica of the Lady Liberty, the Statue will be placed at New York Harbor. It will celebrate Independence Day facing its big sister from July 1 through 5.
Therefore, it can call for a double whammy for people deciding to visit the Statue this year, as Lady Liberty’s sister will also await their presence!

3.Huntington Beach
Huntington Beach, nick-named, Surf City, has a 117-year-old Independence Day tradition going on. It is the particular celebration of liberation in the neighborhood. It also has one of the longest-running 4th of July Independence Day parades.
This year, Huntington Beach has a lot planned for the people who plan to visit it. It includes three days of activities that consist of the Surf City 5k Run and the Pier Plaza Festival, with vendors, food, and other mastering live performances.
As for the night, it has a firework show where people can sit on the beach’s shores and enjoy. Therefore, Surf City provides a perfect opportunity to feel patriotic and excited at the same time!
4.Philadelphia Welcome America Festival
Many people choose to visit Philadelphia for the 4th of July weekend for two particular reasons. One being the obvious historical importance of the American liberation getting declared here. Second, being the WaWa American Festival!
The festival starts from Juneteenth and goes about through the 4th of July. It marks a double celebration. The end of slavery in 1865 and the freedom from Great Britain in 1776. It includes numerous events, starting from musical concerts to orchestra performances and the obligatory fireworks.
This year, the annual July 4 Concert is a free performance starring Bebe Rexha, Flo Rida, and the Philly POPS. However, the most important event is the celebration of freedom. It takes place on the morning of the said day, in front of Independence Hall.

5.Gatlinburg, Tennessee
Just like Philadelphia, Gatlinburg also holds a special place in the freedom struggle of America. Gatlinburg is the site of America’s first-ever Independence Day parade. Therefore, every year a midnight Parade occurs, the primary Independence Day Parade, beginning at 12:01 a.m. The ones who want to view the parade have to come early on the 3 of July, to grab a seat to see the long mile parade.

Apart from the parade, the Gatlinburg celebration includes the firework display, River Raft Regatta, and decorated streets of Gatlinburg which, turn out to give a nice scenic view.

Independence Day accounts for a federal holiday in the States. Everyone in the United States looks for special getaway plans to go and celebrate the birth of independence.
One thing that was common in all the places mentioned above is firework displays. It is so because it generates a sense of light and liberation in people. A feeling of pride and entitlement. While you look at parades and historical monuments that have held a pioneering symbolism in the American Revolution, visiting them and going back to those times is on many people’s wish-list.
