Today- November 7

Celebrating each day by creating the foremost of it and cherishing the little things. The happiness just doubles up when we have our loved ones around. Just like this, we celebrate November 7 as National Canine Lymphoma Awareness Day to ensure the well-being of our furry companion. Today we also celebrate National Bison Day to preserve America’s national vertebrate.

NATIONAL CANINE LYMPHOMA AWARENESS DAY-

We celebrate National Canine Lymphoma Awareness Day every year on November 7. In the honor of our pets who passed away due to lymphoma.  Lymphoma is a type of cancer found in canines and humans. More than thirty different kinds of lymphoma in canines are found.  The most commonly affected areas, in canines, are bone marrow, spleen, and lymph nodes (supporting the immune system).  It occurs in the lymphocytes ( a type of white blood cell) which helps fight infections. The precise explanation for the cause of cancer in canines has not discovered yet. According to pet healthcare professionals, genetics and the environment could be the possible cause. The most effective therapy for canine lymphoma is chemotherapy.

HISTORY-

In 2011, a dog named Reveille, of the dog trainer Terry Simons was diagnosed with lymphoma. Terrified with the news, Simons started looking for information on various options of treatment. However, due to a lack of awareness and options for treatment, Simons was not able to keep Reveille much longer.

In the grief of losing his canine companion, Simons established CLEAR- Canine Lymphoma Education Awareness and Research. This foundation is committed to providing information, research, and resources on this mortifying disease. In 2015, to spread awareness about canine cancer, Simons founded the National Canine Lymphoma Awareness Day on November 7, every year.

HOW TO CELEBRATE?

There are many ways in which you can celebrate National Canine Awareness Day. For instance, if you have a canine friend, regular appointments with the vet regarding your dog’s health are one way. Another is by being aware and making other dog owners aware of this disease (especially dogs over 6 years). If you are able to own a pet and afford to take care of it, ADOPT a furry friend. You can also raise funds or just simply donate to the authentic foundations researching on the same.

NATIONAL BISON DAY

American Bison is not only the state mammal of Wyoming, Oklahoma, and Kansas but also the country’s official vertebrate. On first Saturday of November, the nation celebrates National Bison day, hence, November 7 this year.  The National Bison Legacy Act came into existence as a law by President Obama on May 9, 2016.

HISTORY

Over the years, Bison herds have severely reduced due to excessive abuse and hunting. As a result, by the late nineteenth century, herds that once numbered millions, began to disappear. On a verge of extinction, only about seven hundred bison survived at the end of nineteenth century. Since 2013, every year, the Senate has passed a resolution recognizing this day.

HOW TO CELEBRATE

Embracing the pivotal role bison plays in the life of native people several groups have come together to raise funds. Bison have conjointly been a supply of food and article of clothing. Providing robes, shoes, and tools. So that people could survive harsh climates. Envision thousands of bison roaming freely in the plains. Celebrating national Bison day can be as simple as visiting national parks or simply enjoying a delicious bison burger. Many foundations are supporting bison from getting extinct.
