June 20 – World Refugee Day and more

Each new day should be received with gratitude. Gratitude for the amazing new beginning it has provided and helped us see the bright light in the morning. This gratitude should be celebrated in all ways you can. So, we through this Today column, bring to you the amazing reasons you can use to enjoy your day.

WORLD REFUGEE DAY

This holiday was launched by the United Nations General Assembly in 2000 to focus on ways to improve the lives of refugees. The globe comes together as a community to recognize this day. Basically, refugees are a kind of migrants who are forced to leave their homes due to terror, war, or some other crises. Imagine, how difficult the journey is when they flee their own country. To sustain a living, refugees often reside in camps that are not well-equipped for a long term living. The suffering faced by the refugees worldwide needs recognition and this day – June 20 aims to do the same.

The UN organizes several events on World Refugees Day with the aim of discussing the world refugee crisis, future goals surrounding the topic, and how to make a difference. Also, there are many ways by which you can support a refugee community. This day aims at building empathy and raising awareness of the refugee crises.

NATIONAL AMERICAN EAGLE DAY

This day is designated to celebrate the national symbol of the United States on June 20. This day is recognized in order to raise awareness about the bald eagle and to preserve the bird’s natural habitat, near large water bodies. National American Eagle Day is meant to educate people about the importance of the bird and to explore ways through which we can reduce the risk of its extinction.

National American Eagle Day was launched by a Tennessee organization, American Eagle Foundation. This organization is focused on protecting bald eagles and their fellow birds of prey.  There are several activities you can get involved in to recognize this day. Go for watching the D.C. Eagle Cam. It is a live stream that allows anyone in the world to take a peek into the lives of two bald eagles living in the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. A video camera fixed on the eagles’ nest offers snapshots of their lives. Get into some volunteering activities like charity or help in preservation groups.

SUMMER SOLSTICE

This day marks the moment when the path of the Sun in the sky is farthest North in the Northern Hemisphere. This day has the maximum daylight and it is said to be the longest day of the year. Summer Solstice marks the beginning of summer which lasts until the autumnal equinox, i.e., September 22 or 23 in the Northern Hemisphere.

This day is celebrated in many cultures. For example, in Scandinavia, the holiday of Midsummer’s Eve is observed on a weekend near the time of the solstice.

WORLD PRODUCTIVITY DAY

Productivity requires focus, attention, and punctuality. This day is always considered as a less-important one and it does not have a central focus of celebration. Suppliers, businesses, and consultancy firms use World Productivity Day to draw attention to the fact of getting most out of your work.

It’s time to start getting back to work and enhance your productivity. Start looking at your processes and seeing where waste can be cut out of them, set yourself a list of things to accomplish, and where you think productivity is lacking so you can identify problem areas and start an action plan to solve it.

Today is a day of foodies as we also have Ice-cream Soda Day, Vanilla Milkshake Day, Kouign Amann Day and more
